Job summary

A leading services provider in the power sector is seeking a Field Service Technician based in Oregon. This role involves installing, maintaining, and repairing transformers for electricity generation and transmission. Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver's license, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Field Service Technician. Transformer Services Inc. (TSI) is a recognized leader in the field of power transformers providing a full range of services and support for electrical substations for utilities, industrial plants, and wind and solar power plants across the United States. With a management team with more than 55 years of collective experience, TSI has the experienced staff to provide the best service, maintenance, repair and installation over a broad range of equipment in the field of substations and electric transformers. TSI is headquartered in the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area.

This position performs routine skilled and technical support work in the installation, inspection, repair, and maintenance of transmission and distribution substation electrical equipment.

Responsibilities
  • The installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of transformers used in the generation and transmission of electricity.
  • The logging and maintenance of operating records as required.
  • Maintenance of solid-state devices, telemetering equipment, protective relays, and switchboard instruments.
  • Utilize drawings/prints and instruction manuals in the performance of the installation, maintenance, and operation of electrical facilities.
  • Operate construction/maintenance equipment (bucket/derrick trucks, oil processing equipment, etc.) and tools.
  • Perform switching, obtain clearances and make the site safe for work.
  • Works with line crews and contractors as assigned.
Qualifications

Required:

  • High School diploma or GED. Supplemental courses in electrical maintenance desired.
  • Must possess a current and valid driver’s license, and be able to maintain a good driving record.
  • Must be able to crawl, climb, stand and lift up to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Must be able to pass a fit for duty exam.
  • Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must be available for regular overnight domestic travel.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours and overtime, and occasional weekends, holidays and nights.
  • Able and willing to travel to various work locations throughout the U.S. 75 % of the time as needed.
Preferred
  • Commercial Driver\'s License (CDL).
  • NCCO Crane Certification.
  • Some knowledge of the fundamentals and principles of electricity preferred.
  • Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions required in working in a power distribution facility preferred.
  • Ability to learn to read and interpret electrical diagrams and prints.
  • Ability to learn to read and interpret a variety of power generation and distribution metering and recording devices.
  • Ability to learn the practices and procedures of the industry.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
