Job Description
HVJ Associates is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Part-Time CoMET Field Technician to support Construction Materials Engineering and Testing (CoMET) operations on a variety of public and private infrastructure projects. The technician will perform field testing, inspections, and documentation of construction materials to ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and quality requirements.
This position is ideal for individuals seeking flexible work hours while gaining hands‑on experience in the civil engineering and construction industry.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform field testing of construction materials including:
- Soil
- Concrete
- Asphalt
- Aggregate
- Collect samples and conduct testing in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, and project specifications.
- Observe and document construction activities at project sites.
- Prepare accurate field reports, test data, and daily documentation.
- Communicate testing results and field observations to project managers and clients.
- Maintain testing equipment and ensure proper calibration and care.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Operate company vehicles safely and responsibly, when assigned.
- Assist with laboratory testing and sample preparation as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support project completion.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures and specifications.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook and data entry.
- Reliable transportation to and from the office or project sites when required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous construction, engineering, surveying, or materials testing experience.
- Current or ability to obtain certifications such as:
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I
- TxDOT certifications
- ICC certifications
- Nuclear Density Gauge certification
- Experience working on transportation, municipal, or infrastructure projects.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods.
- Ability to safely lift, carry, and move testing equipment and materials.
- Ability to work near active construction operations.
Work Schedule
- Flexible part-time schedule based on project needs.
- Typical hours may range from 10-30 hours per week.
- Occasional early morning, evening, or weekend work may be required depending on project schedules.
