Job summary

NiSource is hiring an entry-level Operations Field Technician in Chillicothe, OH. The role progresses to Field Technician 2 after two years with required training and OQs.

You will install, repair, and replace distribution facilities, operate light earth-moving equipment, and service both residential and commercial customers. You will work in all weather, must pass multiple assessments including DOT/AMPP and background checks, and must be able to obtain CDL and OSHA certifications as required.

Qualifications

• Mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools for field facilities.
• Ability to obtain Ohio CDL and DOT intrastate certification within 3 months.
• Basic math, legible records and understanding written and oral communications.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and meet deadlines.

Job Summary
This is the entry level position within the Operations Field Technician job family. This position includes a progression to Field Technician 2 after two years and the completion of necessary training and Operator Qualifications (OQs).
Essential Functions

• Responsible for the installation, repair and replacement of distribution facilities such as main lines and services and for the operation and maintenance of construction equipment.
• Will work to serve the needs of a residential and commercial customer base.
• Operates all light earth-moving equipment, such as backhoe, side boom, tamper, and hydra-crane.
• Duties include maintenance of said equipment (including cleaning, greasing and lubricating) and transportation of equipment and/or materials.

Required Qualifications For Position

• Must have a mechanical aptitude and be able to use various types of hand tools needed for repair of field facilities.
• Must have the ability to obtain a valid Ohio operators and commercial driver's license (CDL) and certification to operate company trucks under the DOT/Ohio Motor Carrier Safety Regulations for intrastate drivers within 3 months of being awarded the job.
• Must be able to perform basic math calculations, prepare legible records and understand written and oral communications.
• Must have ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Dependable in terms of adherence to deadlines and presence on the job.
• Requires skill in reading/interpreting gauges & dials
• Must be able to be certified to wear self-contained breathing apparatus.
• Job requires working in all weather conditions.
• All positions are subject to applicable DOT (Department of Transportation) Anti-Drug and Alcohol Misuse Prevention Plan (AMPP) regulations.
• All positions must be able to respond to emergency calls and work scheduled and nonscheduled overtime.
• Successful candidates must pass pre-employment Attitude Assessment, Aptitude Testing, Physical Capability Assessment, Drug Screen, MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) screen and Background report.
• Successful candidates must abide by area specific living requirements.
• Knowledge of OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act) regulations concerning pipeline safety and underground construction practices

Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position

• Experience in the plumbing trade with natural gas

Salary Range*: $34.62 - $38.01
