Job description

Salary: $60,000 per YearPosition Summary

The Field Technician performs on-site cleaning, flameproofing, and maintenance of commercial drapery, soft goods, and related fabric systems using On-Site's mobile plant units. This is a physically demanding, hands‑on role that involves driving a company box truck to client locations, working at height on ladders and lifts to access rigged drapery, and operating specialized cleaning and treatment equipment inside theaters, hotels, schools, hospitals, and performing arts centers. Field Technicians frequently travel out of town for multi‑day assignments and are expected to represent On‑Site professionally while working independently or as part of a small crew on client premises.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Drive a company‑owned box truck (mobile cleaning unit) to and from client sites, including highway and out‑of‑town travel, in compliance with all traffic and DOT regulations.
  • Set up and operate the mobile on‑site cleaning plant.
  • Access drapery, curtains, and soft goods installed at height using ladders, lifts, or rigging systems; safely take down, clean, treat, and rehang fabric panels.
  • Lift, carry, and maneuver heavy and bulky fabric panels, hardware, and equipment, often in confined backstage, catwalk, or mechanical spaces.
  • Inspect drapery and soft goods for wear, damage, or fire‑retardant treatment expiration, and communicate findings to the client and Regional Manager.
  • Perform NFPA 705 field flame testing and document results accurately.
  • Maintain, clean, and perform basic upkeep on the truck, equipment, and cleaning tools between jobs.
  • Follow all site‑specific safety protocols (theater, hospital, school, and hotel environments each carry different access and safety rules).
  • Interact professionally with facility staff, building engineers, and client representatives on‑site.
  • Complete job documentation, photos, and paperwork required for quality control and client records.
  • Travel out of town for extended periods (multiple days at a time) as job scheduling requires, including overnight stays.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs, and occasionally up to 75 lbs, with assistance for heavier loads.
  • Ability to climb and work from ladders and lifts at significant heights for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in catwalks, rigging grids, and other elevated or confined backstage spaces.
  • Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and reach for extended periods during setup, cleaning, and rehang operations.
  • Manual dexterity and stamina to operate cleaning equipment and handle fabric for full work shifts.
  • Ability to safely drive a box truck for extended distances, including multi‑hour highway travel.
Travel Requirements
  • Out‑of‑town travel required, including overnight and multi‑day trips depending on client location and job scope.
  • Travel schedule may vary week to week based on the job calendar; some routes are regional, others cross state lines.
  • Company vehicle, fuel, and lodging arrangements provided for qualifying travel per company policy.
Qualifications
  • Valid driver's license in good standing; ability to safely operate a 22‑foot box truck (CDL not typically required, but a clean driving record is mandatory).
  • Prior experience in a physically demanding field service, trades, facilities, or installation role preferred (e.g., HVAC, restoration, upholstery, janitorial/facilities, carpet cleaning).
  • Comfortable working at heights on ladders and lifts; prior scaffold, rigging, or ladder‑safety training a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow safety and quality procedures without direct daily supervision.
  • Good communication skills for interacting with client site staff.
  • Ability to pass a background check and, where required by client sites (e.g., schools, hospitals), additional screening or badging.
Work Environment

Work is performed primarily on client premises rather than in an office setting, and conditions vary by site — from theater stages and catwalks to hotel ballrooms, school auditoriums, and hospital common areas. Technicians work both independently and as part of a small crew, often coordinating around a facility's own operating hours (e.g., after‑hours or overnight access in active hotels or hospitals). The role requires comfort with a changing daily environment, physical exertion, and time away from home during travel assignments.
