Motorola Solutions is seeking an experienced Systems Technologist for an onsite role at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, CA. You will maintain and support a large-scale LMR system, with emphasis on IT system administration and ASTRO 25 expertise.

The role features a standard Monday–Friday schedule, occasional off-hour support, and travel under 10% as needed; citizenship and clearance requirements apply. This position offers stability and growth within US Federal Markets.

Qualifications

• 4+ years experience as an Systems Technician, Field Technician, Network Engineer or System Manager.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary support for LMR Zone Core equipment, including servers, switches, routers, workstations, and storage devices.
• Perform daily first-level troubleshooting and case management for sustainment reporting.
• Provide technical assistance across Motorola ASTRO 25 LMR systems including AES, OTAR, dispatch consoles, and project radios.
• Maintain and repair radio repeaters and dispatch/communications consoles for trunked and conventional LMR systems.
• Assist with system integrations and remote site work validations.

As a USFGMD Systems Technologist, you will be exposed to a wide variety of communications requirements in both the Presale and Post Sale phases of a project. These applications span the entire breadth of the US Federal Government throughout the world.

Job Description

Overview:

This role is for an Onsite System Manager position located at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton , CA, responsible for the maintenance, and technical support for a large-scale LMR (Land Mobile Radio) system. The ideal candidate will have experience in both IT System Administration as well as specialized knowledge of Motorola ASTRO 25 systems.

The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with minimal travel (under 10%) but occasional required support during off-hours for critical events.

System Operations and Maintenance

• Serve as the primary support for LMR Zone Core equipment, including servers, network switches, routers, workstations, and storage devices.

• Manage and execute planned system maintenance and patching activities, including coordinating necessary reboots.

• Ensure the successful transmission and receipt of backups between critical servers and Backup and Recovery (BAR) servers.

Technical Expertise and Troubleshooting

• Provide daily (business days) first-level troubleshooting and case management: tracking, reviewing daily reports, following up, and documenting cases thoroughly for sustainment reporting.

• Offer specialized technical assistance across all aspects of the Motorola ASTRO 25 LMR system, including:

  • ASTRO 25 and Project 25 technology, Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption.
  • Capacity management, Over-The-Air-Rekeying (OTAR) operations.
  • Dispatch console systems and Project 25 subscriber radios.
  • System fleet-mapping, historical/system/patching reports, and applicable database operations.

• Maintain, program, optimize, troubleshoot, and repair radio repeaters and dispatch/communications consoles for both trunked and conventional LMR systems.

System Integration and Documentation

• Assist with and track system integrations and modifications originating from the Master Site.

• Support remote site work (e.g., discoveries, core updates), including validating efforts, clearing alarms, and ensuring full functionality testing by remote field teams.

• Identify, validate, and track all hardware changes related to cases, ensuring detailed case notes include Motorola and third-party model/part numbers, serial numbers, and IUID numbers.

• Provide administrative reports in support of recurring/non-recurring contracts and furnish one-time reports as requested by management, the Program Manager, Quality Manager, or Configuration Manager.

• Execute any other tasks or responsibilities assigned by the Field Service Manager or Program Manager.

Experience and Technical Knowledge

• Deep understanding of Motorola Solutions P25 Trunking Network Systems.

• Solid working knowledge of Motorola radio systems and their application.

• Solid working knowledge of Radio Frequency (RF) theory.

• Excellent knowledge and demonstrated proficiency in using hardware and software tools for both RF and Networking equipment.

Certifications and Education

• The ability to successfully obtain the CompTIA Security+ certification or equivalent within the first 6 months of employment.

• Proficiency in using MS applications, Google Workspace, and relevant software tools.

Citizenship & Security Clearance Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is mandatory.

• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. indefinitely (no employer sponsorship is available).

• The ability to successfully obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance is a condition of continued employment, requiring the completion of a Standard Form 86 (SF-86) and obtain the CompTIA Security+ certification or equivalent within the first 6 months of employment.

• Required background clearance(s) as mandated by government customer(s) must be obtained.

• A valid driver's license without traffic violations is required.

Target Base Salary Range: $80,000 - $85,000 USD

Basic Requirements

• This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.

• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.
