Location / Region

This position is located in the Cleveland, OH area and may travel to parts of OH, KY and WV. The role could require travel up to three nights a week, covering the Central Midwest area.

What’s the role?

Field Support Engineer II – with limited supervision you install, repair, upgrade and perform preventive maintenance on Carl Zeiss Meditec instrumentation in a designated service territory. You represent Carl Zeiss Meditec at customer sites and work to achieve a high level of customer satisfaction while managing company‑issued property and maintaining professional communication with team, customers, management, sales and technical support.

What you’ll do

• Diagnose and repair designated products, including installations, upgrades and preventive maintenance per training and guidelines.
• Schedule, create, verify or modify customer visits, assessing customer needs that may impact practice finances and patient well‑being.
• Complete and submit a daily field service report following the established field service reference database guidelines.
• File a weekly expense report in accordance with Carl Zeiss Meditec policies.
• Maintain spare part inventory per company guidelines and return specific parts as instructed.
• Support revenue growth through promotion and retention of service agreements.
• Interface with customers in a professional, pleasant and calm manner.
• Assist in instructing customers on equipment operation and maintenance.

Do you qualify?

• Minimum of three (3) years of related experience in Electronics, Fine Mechanics, Optics or Medical Field Service.
• BS in Electronics, Engineering, Computer Technology or related fields preferred.
• A+ and Net+ certifications preferred.
• Ability to analyze difficult customer issues and achieve satisfactory outcomes.
• Self‑directed, able to work independently with limited oversight.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong computer skills.
• Ability to pass required training to service fine mechanics and optics, and to service equipment on which training is completed.
• Multiple project and time‑management skills required.

Special Demands

Extensive overnight travel by automobile and air required. Must be able to travel within the U.S. and internationally for training, meetings, exhibit support and coverage outside the assigned territory.

The position requires an average of four (4) hours of driving per day for service calls. A valid driver’s license and good driving record are mandatory.

Occasionally must lift up to 50 pounds; thirty percent of the workday is spent standing or walking.
