Job Summary

The Job Lead manages day‑to‑day construction activities, supervising craft employees and subcontractors. The role schedules field activities in coordination with the project schedule and is responsible for safety, production goals, quality control, and cost control.

The position may supervise one or more craft groups and has a progression of three skill levels (I, II, Sr.). Step I is entry level, requiring experience managing 1‑2 crews and/or foremen, and subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Emphasize a culture of safety and ensure the safety plan is executed relentlessly.
  • Assist in or conduct review of shop drawings, RFI review, and implementation, as well as quality control and safety responsibilities, managing subcontractor coordination and oversight.
  • Assist in or manage selection of equipment, construction methods, and sequencing of operations.
  • Assist with or conduct subcontractor meetings.
  • Assist with or manage implementation of LEAN planning.
  • Conduct risk management analysis and work with project leaders to ensure timely mitigation and documentation.
  • Demonstrate competency in environmental control processes and take corrective action when necessary.
  • Enforce the project management plan (PMP) and ensure field activities align with plans, policies, and procedures.
  • Manage project control activities and costs daily, taking appropriate actions for consistent deliverables and successful execution; demonstrate business acumen within the area of responsibility.
  • On self‑perform projects, acquire, develop, and manage a craft field team, including setting performance expectations, providing feedback, identifying training needs, and conducting on‑the‑job training; may conduct Individual Development Reviews.
  • Coordinate manpower, equipment, material, and subcontractor activities per the project schedule; ensure material management plan and change control processes are followed.
  • Participate in business development and pre‑construction activities as directed.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed schedules for areas of responsibility, ensuring scheduling, sequencing, and changes are communicated daily to the project team for timely execution.
  • Review time sheets, quantity reporting, and daily costs; complete all daily reporting requirements in a timely and accurate manner per the Sundt Management System (SMS).
  • Use available reports to manage project scope and ensure appropriate steps are taken to build the project successfully; may participate in developing the Monthly Progress Report.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Minimum of two years supervisory experience in construction technology, methods, equipment, tools, and work procedures.
  • Understanding of construction scheduling and cost control, and ability to supervise employees and subcontractors.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (steel‑toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.).
  • Can reach above shoulder height and below the waist on a frequent basis.
  • Occasionally stoop, kneel, or bend; uses telephone, computer, email, or other electronic devices; complies with safety standards.
  • Occasionally climbs stairs, ladders, etc.
  • Uses hands to grasp, lift, carry, or feel objects on a frequent basis.
  • Interacts with people frequently during a shift or workday; lifts, pushes, or pulls objects occasionally.
  • Stays seated, standing, or walking for up to the entire shift duration.
