Job summary

Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is seeking a Spawning Ground Surveyor for field surveys of salmon, steelhead, and lamprey. You will collect data, manage field records, and coordinate access with landowners and agencies.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with science coursework and related experience.
  • Experience as a Scientific Technician 1 or equivalent lab/field work with biologists or zoologists.
  • Course work in biology, zoology, fisheries or natural sciences may substitute for experience.
  • Driver’s license required; CPR/First Aid certification preferred within 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct spawner surveys for salmon, steelhead, and lamprey and record counts.
  • Maintain field records, data entry, and daily summaries.
  • Access private lands with permissions; coordinate with landowners and agencies.
  • Collect GPS data and enter data into spreadsheets/databases.
  • Maintain field gear, vehicles, and watercraft equipment.
  • Provide daily reports to supervisor and team biologists.

Education

High school diploma or GED with science coursework
Two years of lab/field experience or two years as Scientific Technician 1
College coursework in biology, zoology, fisheries, chemistry, natural sciences
CPR/First Aid certification
Valid Driver’s License
