Job summary

Upper Crust Food Service is seeking a Field Sous Chef for campus-based locations across Greek Life communities. This non-exempt role covers multiple houses, stepping in for chef absences, supporting big events, and learning each kitchen inside and out.

The ideal candidate will have a culinary degree or equivalent, 3+ years in professional kitchens (including 1+ year as Sous Chef), and a ServSafe certification or ability to obtain within 60 days. Travel between houses is required.

Qualifications

• Culinary degree or equivalent professional kitchen experience.
• 3+ years in a professional kitchen, including at least 1 year at the Sous Chef level.
• ServSafe certification, or ability to obtain one within 60 days of employment.
• Demonstrated ability to execute another chef's menu to standard.
• Flexibility to work across multiple kitchens on short notice.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to integrate quickly into teams.
• High-volume residential, hospitality, or institutional experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Take daily assignments from Area Manager or Ops Coordinator and lead service wherever needed.
• Execute the house's planned menu to standard when covering an absent Chef, managing prep, station setup, food safety, and day-of logistics.
• Rotate across all houses on campus, learning each kitchen's equipment, inventory, vendors, and service cadence.
• Provide pre-service prep support at high-volume houses on coverage-light days.
• Support new-house onboarding and execute special events, including philanthropies, recruitment events, and formal dinners.
• Complete shadow time with senior chefs and participate in development reviews.
• Build a portfolio of menu concepts, costed recipes, and service plans toward independent menu ownership.
