Job summary

A prominent engineering firm is seeking a summer intern to assist with environmental fieldwork in Charleston, SC. The role involves sampling of soil, groundwater, air, and waste. Overview

GEL Engineering, LLC, a member of The GEL Group, Inc., has an opening for a summer intern primarily focused on field services activities in South Carolina. Based in our Charleston, SC office, the position will work closely with technicians in our Field Services Group and professionals in our Environmental Group to conduct environmental fieldwork.

Responsibilities
  • The majority of the work day will be spent out in the field, however office work may also be required.
  • Work will be focused on conducting environmental fieldwork including soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air, vapor sampling, as well as waste sampling for a variety of projects.
Qualifications
  • Current student in the process of acquiring a Bachelors or Masters degree in biology, environmental studies, or closely related field.
  • Strong communication skills, self-motivated, organized, flexible, and able to work independently and with a project team.
  • A valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Satisfy test results as part of GEL’s drug-free workplace policy and pre-employment screening requirements.
  • Must be willing to travel and perform field work.
Physical Requirements and Working Environment

Work is performed primarily on location at commercial, government, and industrial client’s sites. Time will be spent in the office as well. Travel to client sites, contractor facilities, and industry events is required based on project needs but at a minimum may be 80% of the week.
