Job summary

This position reports to the Dean of the School of Education and Behavioral Sciences.

Position Summary

The Program Manager is responsible for all field placements of students enrolled in educational licensure programs and will oversee the collection and reporting of fieldwork data that will be used to make programmatic decisions for the Division. The Program Manager will work closely with Program Directors in the School of Education and Behavioral Sciences and participate in the collection of data and writing of reports for accreditation.

Duties & Responsibilities

A. Standard Report Functions and Decision Support (70%)

  • Work closely with P-12 public, private, and charter schools, principals, and teachers (on O’ahu and neighbor islands) to ensure placements of all Elementary, Secondary, and Special Education students enrolled in licensure programs;
  • Conduct orientation meetings to inform Elementary, Secondary, and Special Education students and P-12 schools of placement procedures, program and State requirements;
  • Work with educational communities, educational officers/members, and organizations that affect student placements/procedures and accreditation;
  • Create and monitor student placement databases/reports as required by Accrediting bodies, the Federal Government, the State, the School of Education and Behavioral Sciences, or others;
  • Recommend eligible Elementary, Secondary, and Special Education students for initial teaching licensure in the State of Hawai’i;
  • Administrative support including but not limited to:
    • Creating and processing contracts and compensation forms for check requests;
    • Scanning and storing documents using university software applications; and
    • Maintaining documents and files on cooperating/host teachers and university supervisors.
  • Maintain/update all field experience and licensure-related manuals and handbooks for each school year; and
  • When required and assigned by the Dean, coordinate special programs of the School of Education and Behavioral Sciences by:
    • Monitoring and advising students;
    • Registering students in courses as needed;
    • Assisting with on-ground sessions and meetings for students; and
    • Communicating any and all requirements/updates to students

B. External Reporting (20%)

  • Build, compile, and submit any special reports as requested by the Program Directors in the School of Education and Behavioral Sciences, Dean of Education, University, or State or local agencies as it relates to field services; and
  • Create, monitor, and update affiliated agreements.

C. Other Duties (10%)

  • Serve as the instructor of records for Student Teaching courses; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education from an accredited institution.
  • Desired Education: Master’s degree in Education from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum Experience: 3 years of experience as a classroom teacher.
  • Desired Experience:
    • Experience in pre-service teacher education programs
    • Experience in the Hawai’i Department of Education
  • Required Skills:
    • Detailed knowledge of the Hawai’i Department of Education and Hawai’i Teacher Standards Board policies and requirements for licensure and accreditation of teacher education programs;
    • Attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness; and
    • Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Required Technical Skills: Proficiency in data management and organization - Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Google Drive applications.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to traverse the campus, stoop, bend, climb stairs, lift approximately 10-20 lbs, and have finger dexterity.
  • Other Qualifications:
    • Commitment to standards-based national educational practices;
    • Willingness to travel to neighbor islands; and
    • A driver’s license and a vehicle for use on the job.
