Field Service Technician - Winston‑Salem, NC

Location: Winston‑Salem, NC. Job Type: Full‑time.

Job Description

The Solar Maintenance Technician is an entry‑level position responsible for the safe and productive repairs and maintenance of commercial and utility‑scale solar PV plants. Tasks include preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to maximize production across modules, strings, trackers, inverters, and related equipment.

Responsibilities

• Uphold a high level of safety standards in all activities.
• Conduct routine preventive maintenance, service, troubleshooting, and repair of solar photovoltaic facilities.
• Learn and apply NEC code, electrical theory, and industry best practices.
• Perform DC and AC testing—polarity, open‑circuit voltage, grounding continuity, communication, insulation resistance, IV‑curve tracing.
• Interpret schematics to understand system layouts and connections.
• Maintain a schedule for routine maintenance and repairs of equipment, including single‑axis trackers, central/string inverters, transformers, AC/DC disconnects, and substation equipment.
• Maintain company property—vehicle, tools, meters, and plant stock.
• Maintain service reports, inspection documentation, safety paperwork, and spare parts inventory.
• Provide maintenance and troubleshooting training to technicians and others as needed.
• Identify safety hazards and take appropriate action to remove or eliminate them.

Qualification Requirements

• Familiarity with electrical systems and components.
• Proficiency in using power tools for repair tasks.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics accurately.
• Proficiency with MS Office suite.
• Ability to take direction and complete tasks with minimal oversight.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Working knowledge and experience operating under OSHA 1910, NFPA 70E, 70B.
• OSHA 10 General Industry certification.
• Must be available for travel, and on‑call during off‑shift hours and weekends.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

• Work must be performed outdoors at various job sites.
• Must comply with all safety standards and use required PPE.
• Requires ability to sit, stoop, kneel, bend, stand, or walk for 8–10 hours a day.
• Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
