Job summary

Siemens Mobility invites you to join the Power Protection & Automation Field Technician Development Program (PPA FTDP). This full-time, one-year development track targets recent graduates in electrical technology, offering hands-on testing, field service rotations across the United States, and mentorship from seasoned Siemens specialists.

You will work with SIPROTEC relays, protection systems, and automation networks while supporting utilities, data centers, and industrial facilities.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Power Systems Technology, Electronics, Electromechanical Technology, or related technical field.
  • Willingness to travel up to 40 weeks/year to US-based sites across the country.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States on a permanent basis.
  • Interest in power protection and automation technology.

Responsibilities

  • Support factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
  • Perform switchgear functional testing, relay injection testing, and protection system verification.
  • Read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Gain hands-on experience with SIPROTEC relays, DIGSI 5, Omicron test equipment, SICAM A8000, IEC 61850, and fiber-optic networks.
  • Document test results and communicate technical issues to engineering and project teams.

We are seeking qualified candidates for our Power Protection & Automation Field Technician Development Program (PPA FTDP) beginning January 19th, 2027 .

Program Overview:

The PPA FTDP is a full-time, one-year development program for recent associate degree graduates interested in supporting the testing and commissioning of power protection and automation systems. Positions may be based in multiple regions across the United States.

As part of the Siemens Smart Infrastructure Electrification & Automation team, you will participate in a structured program combining technical training, hands‑on factory experience, mentorship, and field service rotations.

The program includes:

  • Phase 1: Approximately 10–12 weeks of initial training in Wendell, North Carolina, covering power system fundamentals, electrical and field safety, technical drawings, wiring, factory assembly, quality testing, and hands‑on equipment experience.
  • Phases 2–4: Three field service rotations of approximately 8–10 weeks each, supporting customer projects across the United States.
  • Additional technical training in Wendell between rotations, focused on protection relays, automation systems, communication networks, testing equipment, and commissioning practices.

Throughout the program, you will work alongside experienced Siemens technicians and engineers supporting utilities, data centers, manufacturing facilities, renewable energy projects, and other critical power infrastructure.

You’ll make an impact by:

  • Supporting factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
  • Performing switchgear functional testing, relay injection testing, and protection system verification.
  • Reading electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Gaining hands‑on experience with SIPROTEC relays, DIGSI 5, Omicron test equipment, SICAM A8000, IEC 61850, industrial networks, and fiber‑optic systems.
  • Documenting test results and communicating technical issues to engineering and project teams.
  • Following Siemens and customer safety, quality, and site requirements.

  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Power Systems Technology, Electronics, Electromechanical Technology, or related technical field.
  • Passion for innovation, hands‑on technical work, and problem‑solving.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to travel extensively, up to 40 weeks per year, including Monday‑Friday travel to customer sites across the United States and occasional Sunday travel.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, or non‑standard schedules based on project needs.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis.

The pay range for this position is 70,000 - 70,000 annually. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
