Job summary

SME Solutions, LLC. is seeking a Field Service Technician in the San Diego area to service fuel systems for military and commercial customers. The role includes training and certification, with a focus on safety and hands-on problem solving.

You will work on fuel dispensers, tanks, and POS systems, driven daily to locations, with some occasional overnight stays and paid travel time. No formal education required; on-the-job development is emphasized.

Qualifications

Mechanical skills using hand tools and basic power tools are required.
Basic computer skills to operate laptops/tablets in the field.
Experience with customer service in field settings is preferred.
Knowledge of plumbing and electrical concepts is helpful.

Responsibilities

Perform routine maintenance on fuel dispensers with military customers, replacing nozzles and hoses.
Use hand tools and power tools for maintenance tasks.
Troubleshoot and repair fuel dispenser leaks, replace O-rings, gaskets, and piping fixtures.
Assist with tank monitoring and sump pump operations, install or replace sump pumps.
Perform pressure testing, replace meters and filters.
Troubleshoot issues at dispensers or POS systems.
Follow job documents and safety protocols, take notes, update systems with laptop/iPad.
Maintain and organize company vehicle with tools, ensure cleanliness.
Drive to customer sites and shop locations daily, with occasional paid overnight stays.

Job Details:

$28-$31 an hour to start, with +$2-$3 an hour conditional increase within 12 months.
Reports to: San Diego, CA shop with paid travel time to jobs.
Shifts Available: Mon-Fri 7:30-4:00pm
Overtime participation is required.
Working occasionally on military bases

Job Duties (Training is provided):

Perform routine maintenance on fuel dispensers with military customers (Wayne, Gilbarco, etc.), including replacing nozzles and breakaway hoses.
Use hand tools (wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers) and power tools (drills) for maintenance tasks.
Troubleshoot and repair fuel dispenser leaks, such as leaking nozzles, pumps, valves. Replace O-rings, gaskets, and basic piping fixtures.
Assist with tank monitoring and sump pump operations. Install or replace sump pumps.
Perform pressure testing, replace meters, filters and faulty components.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues at dispensers or Point of Sale (POS) systems.
Follow job documents and safety protocols, take detailed job notes and update relevant systems with laptop or iPad. Set up safety equipment and barricades as needed.
Maintain a well-organized and fully stocked company vehicle, ensuring it is clean and functional.
Drive to customer sites and shop locations daily, with occasional overnight stays (paid).

Your Qualifications:

No formal education or trade school are required for the role.
Adherence to federal standards for military base work.
Mechanical Skills – experience with hand tools (wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers) and some basic power tools (drills) is required.
Basic Computer Skills – ability to use laptops and other electronic devices (iPad, phone) proficiently is required.
Hobbies related to mechanical, automotive, electrical, carpentry, etc. are relevant for the role.
Knowledge of basic plumbing (pressure, valves, etc.) and electrical (voltage, AC/DC) concepts are preferred.
Prior experience working in the field, hands-on, and with customers is preferred.
Experience in relevant industries is a plus (construction, automotive, manufacturing, plumbing, HVAC, electrician, maintenance, etc.).
