Job description

Sungrow North America is a leading provider of renewable energy solutions, specializing in the development and manufacturing of photovoltaic inverters and energy storage systems. The company offers a comprehensive range of products and services designed to optimize the performance and efficiency of solar power installations.

Position Overview

This role supports field service operations within Sungrow USA related to commissioning, warranty, and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of expanding installed sites. Reporting to the regional field service supervisor, the position is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and commissioning PV inverters and ancillary equipment, typically at customer sites or staging yards. The role implements the Safety Mandate, “ZERO HARM,” and enforces safety management policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform technical assignments involving the installation, operation, testing, and maintenance of string and central solar inverters and/or BESS systems, PCS, batteries, and ancillary equipment.
  • Conduct general troubleshooting and diagnosis under Sungrow’s maintenance and repair guidelines.
  • Support and perform pre‑commissioning (with and without grid emulator) and commissioning of solar inverters and BESS systems per schedule and work plans.
  • For O&M capacity, perform Preventive Maintenance and other Long Term Service Agreement (LTSA) activities per the contract.
  • Investigate solar plant issues such as DC array grid faults, inverter design issues, and utility grid transients; for BESS roles, also handle SOC checks, component‑level troubleshooting, replacement of electrical/electronic parts, and SW version updates.
  • Provide feedback to engineering and project teams on possible mechanical and electrical design improvements.
  • Lead upgrade/rework projects (software and hardware) in the field and interact with customers to explain technical scope and manage work schedule and commitments.
  • Work with customer SCADA engineers to set up systems communication and parameters involving Sungrow’s controllers and F&G systems.
  • Accurately document troubleshooting sequences and procedures observed.
  • Identify and document basic mechanical and electrical issues and problems.
  • Perform basic corrective maintenance.
  • Create or modify field service procedures for safety, troubleshooting, and maintenance as required.
  • Act as Lead when using contractors on sites to ensure daily activity reports, JSA reports, and compliance with Sungrow standards.
  • Prepare and submit own daily activity reports and daily JSA reports.
  • Work independently with design engineers to resolve high‑level technical issues and support root‑cause investigation for complex projects.
  • Coordinate closely with engineering, logistics, finance, and program management disciplines to maintain solar plant operations.
  • Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures.
  • Complete documentation in a timely and organized fashion.
  • Follow level‑appropriate standard operating procedures.
  • Own creation and submission of all field paperwork and documentation to achieve full compliance with site documentation and project requirements.
  • Serve as a safety second when needed.
Education, License, and Certificates
  • Associate’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Renewable industry experience is desired.
  • Power Electronics experience is desired.
  • OSHA 10 certification within 12 months of hire.
  • NFPA 70e certification within 12 months of hire.
Competencies
  • Perform essential job functions using proper techniques, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling tools and equipment.
  • Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Engage in frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching during field assignments.
  • Work in varied field environments, including confined spaces, uneven surfaces, and changing weather conditions.
  • Follow all company safety policies and training requirements, including the use of PPE.
  • Comprehend Job Hazard Analysis and conduct level‑appropriate Job Hazard Analysis.
  • Designated as an Authorized Person for LOTO.
Minimum Requirements
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Motivated self‑starter with strong problem‑solving abilities.
  • Track record of completing projects from inception to delivery, demonstrating accountability.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to interact professionally with diverse partners and senior managers.
  • 3+ years of overall technical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with solar inverters or BESS.
  • Ability to work with test equipment and hand tools as required.
  • Ability to closely follow instructions and pre‑established SOPs.
  • Experience or certification with MV transformers is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • OSHA, NFPA70A, Electrical Safety certifications.
Travel
  • 80%+ travel.
Work Location and Status
  • Contract role, Tyler, TX area.
  • No visa/legal sponsorship.
