Job summary

Cooper Machinery Services is seeking a Field Service Technician I to support installation, maintenance, inspection, repair, and commissioning of reciprocating engines and compressors at customer sites. You will work with experienced field professionals, learn specialized equipment, and develop foundational competencies to advance along Cooper’s Field Service career path.

Travel ~80% with safety, quality, and customer service as top priorities.

Responsibilities

• Support installation, maintenance, inspection, repair, and commissioning of reciprocating engines and compressors at customer sites.
• Assist experienced technicians with preventive maintenance, minor repairs, and equipment rebuilds.
• Develop proficiency using basic hand tools, torque wrenches, and field equipment.
• Learn to use OEM manuals to identify parts, procedures, tolerances, and specifications.
• Record inspection and maintenance data accurately in required documentation.
• Monitor equipment condition, communicate observations, and assist with troubleshooting.
• Maintain safety, quality, customer service, and ongoing technical development in a travel-intensive field environment.

Location: Field-Based | Travel: ~80% | Job Type: Full-Time

You’re mechanically minded, hands-on, and ready to build a specialized career. As a Field Service Technician I with Cooper Machinery Services, you’ll develop your technical skills while supporting the installation, maintenance, inspection, repair, and commissioning of reciprocating compression equipment at customer locations. You’ll work alongside experienced field professionals, learn specialized equipment, and build the foundational competencies that can take your career to the next level.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Support the installation, maintenance, inspection, repair, and commissioning of reciprocating engines and compressors at customer sites.
• Assist experienced technicians with preventive maintenance, minor repairs, equipment rebuilds, and overhaul activities.
• Develop proficiency in the safe and proper use of basic hand tools, large hand tools, torquing devices, and related field equipment.
• Learn to use OEM manuals to identify parts, procedures, tolerances, and specifications.
• Perform basic measurements and accurately record inspection and maintenance information in required documentation.
• Monitor equipment condition and performance, communicate observations, and assist with troubleshooting and problem resolution.
• Maintain a strong commitment to safety, quality, customer service, and continuous technical development while working in a highly travel-intensive field environment.

WHO YOU ARE

• Mechanically inclined with an interest in engines, compressors, rotating equipment, or industrial machinery.
• Possess foundational mechanical skills and the ability to use basic hand tools safely and effectively.
• Comfortable learning technical procedures, reading manuals, and following detailed instructions.
• Able to perform basic math calculations, including fractions and decimals.
• Willing and able to travel approximately 80% and work at customer locations as business needs require.
• Safety-minded, dependable, adaptable, and comfortable working in industrial field environments.
• Able to work effectively as part of a field service team, take directions from experienced technicians and leaders, and develop the technical skills necessary to progress through Cooper’s Field Service career path.

PREFERRED

• Previous mechanical, diesel, engine, compressor, industrial, automotive, agricultural, or related hands-on experience.
• Technical school, vocational training, military mechanical experience, or equivalent hands-on training.
• Exposure to reciprocating engines, compressors, natural gas compression, or industrial equipment.
• Experience using hand tools, torque wrenches, precision measuring tools, or OEM technical manuals.
• Previous field service or industrial maintenance experience.
