Job description

Description

If you can chase down an electrical fault or troubleshoot a sealed system, you already have most of what this job takes. The equipment is the part we teach.

CONES Solutions has been keeping commercial kitchens running since 1966, and we are adding a Field Service Technician covering the Iowa City and Cedar Rapids corridor. We hire at both ends of the experience range. Where you land in our pay range depends on your experience, certifications, and licenses. Trade school graduates holding an Iowa Mechanical License typically start at $22 or above, and the top of the range is for technicians with direct commercial foodservice or commercial refrigeration experience.

You do not need commercial kitchen experience to apply. If you are coming out of a trade school HVAC, refrigeration, or electrical program, or you are an HVAC tech looking for something different, read on. We train the equipment. You bring the fundamentals and the work ethic.

If You Are Coming From HVAC or Trade School

A lot of what you already do carries over directly: refrigeration cycle, sealed systems, electrical troubleshooting, reading schematics, gas train and combustion basics. Your Iowa Mechanical License and EPA card count here too.

What changes is the work itself. Commercial kitchen service is steady year round instead of slammed in July and slow in November. Most of your day is indoors. The equipment is more varied than a run of condensers, and you are solving a different problem in every kitchen you walk into. You are home at night. This is not an over-the-road job.

Your First Two Years

Day one, you ride with an experienced technician. We do not hand a new tech a van and a call list and wish them luck. You learn this equipment on real service calls, next to someone who has been doing it for years, and you start the certification path immediately.

Where you start. New hire onboarding and OSHA safety training, then Ignitor Labs electrical foundations: multimeters, wiring diagrams, and the fundamentals everything else is built on.

Where it goes. CFESA's online program plus our own coursework on CONES University, in electrical, gas, steam, and refrigeration. Each discipline ends in a proctored CFESA certification, and three of the four earns you CFESA Master Technician. We pay for all of it and you do it on the clock.

What you earn along the way. Your own assigned service van and a place in the after-hours rotation. Both come with demonstrated competence, typically in your first one to two years. We do not put a new technician on call. That is something you move into when you and your team are confident you can handle a Saturday night alone.

Benefits Include
  • Assigned company service vehicle and fuel card once you are running calls solo
  • Company phone, and tablet as assigned
  • Uniform and laundering service
  • Paid factory and CFESA training
  • Qualified tuition reimbursement
  • Health, vision, and dental plans
  • Disability and life insurance
  • Company-match retirement plan
  • Vacation and sick time
  • Performance-based bonus and pay increases
