Job summary

ACT Power Services is seeking a Solar Field Service Technician to support safe, productive on-site operations of Commercial and Utility-Scale Solar PV plants. You will perform preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs to maximize production while promoting a safe energy future.

Based in the field, this role works at customer sites nationwide with travel about 20% and requires strict adherence to safety and documentation practices.

Qualifications

  • 6 months to 1 year of relevant field experience in solar, electrical, or a related technical/mechanical trade; or successful completion of ACT's Apprentice program.
  • Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) sign-off, or ability to obtain sign-off within onboarding period.
  • OSHA 10 General Industry certification, or ability to obtain within first 90 days.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings including fuses, breakers, switches, and BoS equipment.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to follow directions and complete tasks.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Travel around 20% and willingness for on-call weekends/holidays.
  • FAA Part 107 certification, Technical Writing course, and ACT High/Medium Voltage training in progress.
  • Strong safety focus and learning mindset.
  • Ability to perform basic electrical testing under supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Uphold a high level of safety standards in everything you do.
  • Assist preventive maintenance, service, troubleshooting, and repair of solar facilities.
  • Perform grid-tied and tracker inspections and basic maintenance support.
  • Conduct vegetation and site inspections, including monthly checks.
  • Replace damaged components as directed.
  • Apply NEC knowledge and industry best practices with ongoing education.
  • Perform basic electrical testing (IR, continuity, grounding, voltage) under supervision.
  • Dispatch and remediation for repairs under 50V.
  • Maintain company equipment and stock; log data and reports.
  • Log vehicle inspections on time.
  • Initiate warranty claims with equipment vendors/OEMs.
  • Identify hazards and take corrective actions.
  • Conduct pre-job brief analyses.
  • Participate in Good Catch Program and safety observations.
  • Attend maintenance, troubleshooting, and technical writing training.

Job description

The Solar Field Service Technician is directly responsible for the safe, productive, day-to-day onsite operations of Commercial and Utility Scale Solar PV plants. From performing preventative maintenance and inspections, to troubleshooting and making repairs to maximize production, the Solar Field Service Technician gets to exercise a variety of skill sets and has constant opportunities to learn more — all while making an impact on our safe, reliable, clean energy future.

Field Service Technician 1 is a foundational operator within ACT's ACTivate Technician Track, gaining technical skills, safety competency, and company culture fluency under the supervision of senior technicians and Field Leadership. This role supports preventative and corrective maintenance and inspection tasks on solar modules, trackers, inverters, and medium-voltage equipment while demonstrating consistently safe work behavior.

This position may be filled through direct external hire or internal promotion. It is not required that a candidate have held any other position on the ACTivate Technician Track prior to this role; the qualifications below reflect the minimum experience and competencies needed to perform the job, however they were gained.

This role is based in the field and is not assigned to the ACT Power Services main office location, nor is it a traditional work-from-home position. Employees primarily work from customer sites where ACT Power Services provides Operations & Maintenance services. While the listed location(s) are preferred based on the primary site assignment, candidates residing in other locations may be considered. Travel to other sites across the United States may be required based on operational and business needs.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Uphold a high level of safety standards in everything that you do
  • Assist in and support routine preventive maintenance, service, troubleshooting, and repair of solar photovoltaic facilities, including inverter (string or central) maintenance and repairs
  • Perform string-level troubleshooting and repairs, tracker inspections, and basic maintenance support
  • Conduct routine vegetation and site equipment inspections, including monthly inspections
  • Clean or replace damaged components as directed
  • Apply fundamental knowledge of NEC code, electrical theory, and industry best practices, with continuing education as assigned
  • Perform basic electrical testing (IR, continuity, grounding, voltage) under supervision
  • Responsible for dispatching and remediation efforts on repairs under 50V
  • Maintain company property such as vehicles, tools, meters, and plant stock
  • Maintain service reports, inspection documentation, safety paperwork, and spare parts inventory; log data into Fiix, TrueContext, Deputy, and ACT SharePoint
  • Conduct and log vehicle inspections on time
  • Initiate warranty claims with equipment vendors/OEMs as needed
  • Identify safety hazards and take appropriate action to remove or eliminate hazards
  • Conduct pre-job brief analysis
  • Actively participate in the Good Catch Program and BBSO observations
  • Attend maintenance, troubleshooting, and technical writing training as assigned
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • 6 months to 1 year of relevant field experience in solar, electrical, or a related technical/mechanical trade; or successful completion of ACT's Apprentice program (equivalent training and education also considered)
  • Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) sign-off, or ability to obtain sign-off within an established onboarding period

  • Must have the ability to travel around 20% and work on-call during off-shift hours and weekends as needed
  • FAA Part 107 certification, a Technical Writing course, and ACT High Voltage/Medium Voltage training completed or in progress
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures. PPE personal protective equipment is required.
  • Must have the ability to sit, stoop, kneel, bend, stand, or walk for 8-10 hours a day.
  • Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis
WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed mostly outside in the field at job sites. Some sites have offices available. The ability to work in inclement weather conditions is required.
