Job summary

Nippon Sanso MATHESON is seeking a Field Service Technician for the Chicago, IL area to install, commission, and service cryogenic and non-cryogenic equipment and gas distribution systems.

The role requires reading specifications, wiring diagrams, and BOMs; rigging, installation, startup, and repair at customer sites, with travel and stringent safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Requires at least 10+ years in plant maintenance or 5+ years as a service technician with industrial gases.
• Ability to read blueprints, BOMs, and electrical schematics.
• Experience with cryogenic and non-cryogenic gas systems; familiarity with safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Install, assemble, commission, and service cryogenic and non-cryogenic equipment at customer sites.
• Rig in place and install piping and interconnections.
• Supervise subcontractors and ensure safety and on-time delivery.

Job description

Field Service Technician - Chicago, IL Area

Field Service Technician/Industrial Gases - Chicago, IL Area

Wage $30-$40 per hour.

This position is broadly responsible for installation, assembly, commissioning, and service of cryogenic and non-cryogenic application equipment, cylinder and bulk storage systems, and gas distribution piping used in the FoodProcessing, Metals, Manufacturing, Chemical, Water Treatment and other industries.

Essential Function

• Work independently and under supervision of Project Engineer/Manager.
• Review scope of work documents, engineering specifications and plans, process schematics, and Bill of Materials.
• Rig in place, install, assemble, startup, repair and service machinery and equipment used in industrial gas applications at customer sites: freezers; gas mixers; flow, pressure and temperature control systems; blowers, pumps, and compressors; process water chillers; gas purifiers; and analytical and gas detection equipment.
• Perform pipe-fitting and install interconnecting piping.
• If qualified as a brazer or welder, perform brazing and welding operations when required.
• Supervise subcontractors and hired trades, hold daily Toolbox Talks, and ensure all Matheson and Customer’s safety requirements are met.
• Deliver projects on-time and on-budget, with an emphasis on technical excellence and safety.

• High School
• Diploma or GED Vocational training in any of the following field: refrigeration, automotive, plumbing, electrician, or aviation. Associate degree in a technical field is a plus.

Work Experience

• 10+ years
• Minimum 10 years experience in plant maintenance, or Minimum 5 years experience as a service technician with industrial gases company.
• Brazing or welding certification or knowledge of general brazing and welding techniques and equipment is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to follow engineering instructions and specifications, and read blueprints and Bills of Materials
• Ability to read electrical schematics. Knowledge of PLCs is a plus.
• Ability to operate typical hand held power tools such as saws, drills, and grinders.
• Ability to perform mechanical and electrical troubleshooting tasks with minimum supervision.
• Familiarity with cryogenic and non-cryogenic systems, including: Nitrogen, Oxygen, Argon, CO2, Hydrogen, and Helium is a plus.
• Familiarity with rotating machinery.
• Ability to operate a forklift or be trained on forklift operation.

Physical Demands Work Environment

• Work is performed at customer facility, inside and outdoors.
• Noise levels fluctuate from moderate to high.
• Exposure to fumes or airborne particles
• While performing job duties, the employee must wear appropriate personal safety protection equipment which may include, but not limited to: steel toe shoes, safety glasses, face shield, ear protection, work gloves, and protective clothing.
• Job duties may require equipment rigging, lifting of bulky and heavy items weighing up to 75-pounds, and use of ladders.

Travel Requirements

• 50%-75% Extensive domestic travel will be required
