Job summary

ACT Power Services is seeking an entry‑level Field Service Technician to perform safe, productive repairs and preventive maintenance on commercial and utility‑scale solar PV plants.

You will troubleshoot, inspect, and repair equipment such as single‑axis trackers, inverters, transformers, and disconnects, while learning NEC code and industry best practices. Travel and weekend/on‑call work may be required, with comprehensive safety training provided.

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with electrical systems and components.
  • Proficiency with power tools for repair tasks.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Texas Electrical License or Master Electrician highly preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA 1910, NFPA 70E and 70B.
  • OSHA 10 General Industry certificate.
  • Ability to travel, work on-call during off-shift hours and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Uphold a high level of safety standards in all activities.
  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance, service, troubleshooting and repair of solar photovoltaic facilities.
  • Show willingness to learn the NEC code, electrical theory and industry best practices.
  • Perform DC and AC testing, including polarity, open circuit voltage, grounding continuity, communication, insulation resistance testing and I‑V curve tracing.
  • Interpret schematics to understand system layouts and connections.
  • Maintain a schedule for routine maintenance, service, troubleshooting and repair of equipment at solar photovoltaic facilities (single‑axis trackers, central/string inverters, transformers, AC/ DC disconnects, substation equipment).
  • Maintain company property such as vehicle, tools, meters and plant stock.
  • Maintain service reports, inspection documentation, safety paperwork and spare parts inventory.
  • Provide maintenance and troubleshooting training to technicians and others as needed.
  • Identify safety hazards and take appropriate action to remove or eliminate them.

Position Overview

Physical Requirements / Work Environment
  • Work performed outdoors at various job sites.
  • Must comply with all safety standards and procedures; PPE required.
  • Must be able to sit, stoop, kneel, bend, stand or walk for 8–10 hours a day.
  • Must be able to lift, push or pull up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
