Job summary

Trotec Laser is seeking a Field Service Technician to support customers across the United States. You will perform onsite installations, repairs, maintenance, and upgrades on laser systems, traveling as needed from Somerset, NJ area.

Ideal candidates are mechanically and electrically inclined with strong communication and problem-solving skills, and willing to travel. Overtime eligible with quarterly bonuses and comprehensive on-boarding and training.

Qualifications

• Experience with laser systems CO₂ and/or fiber preferred.
• Associate degree or technical certification required.
• Strong electronics, digital circuits, wiring and computer software familiarity.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to lift up to 70 pounds without assistance.

Responsibilities

• Perform onsite installations, repairs, maintenance, and upgrades.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, software, and system issues.
• Provide customer training on operation, applications, and preventative maintenance.
• Deliver technical support via phone, email, and other electronic communication.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
• Create organized and detailed service reports.
• Assist in developing and updating technical documentation.
• Install and configure hardware and software upgrades.
• Maintain professionalism in high-pressure situations.

Somerset NJ commuting area – you will travel to customers (some require overnight) pick up tools, etc. in office and work from home answering customer questions.

$55,000 - $60,000 annually ($26.00 - $29.00/hour)

Overtime eligible hourly position

Quarterly performance bonus based on billable customer hours

Mileage reimbursement-personal vehicle is required

Comprehensive on-boarding and technical training program

Additional electrical competency training provided within the first 90 days for qualified candidates

What You'll Do

As a Field Service Technician, you'll be the face of Trotec Laser, helping customers maximize the performance of their laser systems through:

• Performing onsite installations, repairs, maintenance, and upgrades
• Diagnosing mechanical, electrical, software, and system issues
• Providing customer training on operation, applications, and preventative maintenance
• Delivering technical support via phone, email, and other electronic communication
• Reading and interpreting electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
• Working closely with Sales, Applications, Customer Service, and other internal teams
• Creating organized and detailed service reports
• Assisting in the development and improvement of technical documentation
• Installing and configuring hardware and software upgrades
• Maintaining a high level of professionalism during complex or high-pressure situations

Electrical Knowledge

Candidates may be assessed on the following competencies:

• Electrical fundamentals: current, voltage, resistance, and grounding
• AC and DC circuits
• Low-voltage systems

• Electrical components including switches, resistors, relays, and fuses

Technical Skills

• Read and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics
• Measure AC/DC signals and low-voltage circuits
• Test electrical components and power supplies
• Diagnose and repair technical equipment issues
• Strong computer and software skills

Preferred Experience

• Laser systems experience (CO₂ and/or Fiber)
• CorelDRAW, Adobe Illustrator, AutoCAD, AlphaCAM, MasterCAM, or similar software
• Salesforce experience is a plus
• Associate degree, technical school certification, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Experience with electronics, digital circuits, wiring, mechanics, and computer software preferred
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
• Ability to lift up to 70 pounds without assistance
