Job summary

Selectek is seeking a Field Service Technician to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain a broad range of construction equipment in the Milwaukee area. This role requires hands-on mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical skills, with a strong focus on safety and customer service.

You will troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on cranes, lifts, bulldozers, and other heavy machines, using diagnostic tools and OEM manuals.

Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot complex systems.
  • Experience with laptop-based diagnostics and MS Office.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read schematics, diagrams and service manuals.
  • Basic welding skills.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Willingness to travel up to 90% with home every night.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair construction equipment in the field.
  • Perform mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic repairs.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and general machine upkeep.
  • Use diagnostic tools to identify faults and verify repairs.
  • Disassemble and reassemble components per OEM specs.
  • Operate equipment to assess repair needs and effectiveness.
  • Complete service reports, timecards, and checklists.
  • Communicate job status to customers and office staff.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA safety standards.

Job description

Our client is looking for a Field Service Technician responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of construction equipment in a field environment. This position requires strong mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical skills to support the repair and service of company and customer-owned machines. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with heavy equipment, a high level of attention to detail, and a strong commitment to customer service and workplace safety. The technician will work closely with service and parts personnel to ensure timely and efficient repairs and maintain equipment performance standards.

Responsibilities:
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and diagnose construction equipment, including cranes, lifts, bulldozers etc
  • Perform mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic repairs on equipment.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and general machine upkeep.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools such as laptops, gauges, and instruments to detect equipment faults.
  • Disassemble and reassemble components to OEM specifications.
  • Operate machines to assess repair needs and evaluate repair effectiveness.
  • Perform basic welding and cutting when necessary.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and work orders.
  • Accurately complete service reports, timecards, and checklists.
  • Communicate job status with customers and service office staff.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA safety standards.
Required:
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and diagnose complex systems.
  • Proficiency in laptop-based diagnostics and Microsoft Office.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, diagrams, and service manuals.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong work ethic, professional demeanor, and customer-focused attitude.
  • Basic welding skills and tool usage knowledge.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Able to travel 90% ( most, if not all, will be day travel and home every night. Techs get their own truck and can leave to the site from their house
Preferred:
  • Working knowledge of this equipment:Liebherr, Roadtec, Gomaco, Manitowoc, and Grove machines.
