Job summary

Walbec seeks a skilled heavy equipment mechanic in Wisconsin to perform major engine repairs and overhauls. The role demands expertise in electrical and hydraulic systems with the ability to read schematics and troubleshoot complex issues.

The position includes building and retrofitting hydraulic systems, leading fabrication projects, installing emergency shutdowns, and mentoring other team members in a fast-paced shop environment. Some travel and varied hours may be required.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent with vocational training or certification.
  • CDL required depending on location; crane inspector certification as needed.
  • At least 8 ASE certifications in on-road or related training.

Responsibilities

  • Perform major mechanical engine repairs and overhauls.
  • Repair transmissions up to rebuilds; complete driveline work.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical and hydraulic systems; interpret schematics.
  • Build and retrofit hydraulic systems for equipment; design field-usable components.
  • Plan and execute major fabrication projects and custom field equipment.
  • Fabricate and install electrical systems including emergency shutdowns.

Job description

Responsibilities

Perform major mechanical engine repairs. The ability to overhaul an engine if needed. Perform transmission repairs up to and including rebuilds if necessary. Perform driveline repairs including undercarriage rebuilds. Strong understanding of various trucks and be able to make complicated repairs and modifications as needed. Strong understanding of complicated electrical and hydraulic systems and mastery of both electrical and hydraulic schematics. Build and retrofit hydraulic systems for various equipment. Plan and complete major fabrication projects (water systems, structural, specifically designed field use equipment as needed). Strong skills in fabrication with the ability to think outside the box to make and design a product for field use without a template. Build and install electrical systems including emergency shutdowns and new controls on various equipment.

Qualifications

High School diploma, vocational training, certification from an accredited organization, or combination of schooling and minimum of 5 years relevant work experience in heavy equipment and/or automotive. Valid Driver’s License that meets requirements Valid CDL (type dependent on work location) Crane Inspector Certification as needed by location. At least 8 ASE Certifications in on-road or combination of other formal training.

  • Self-motivating and understanding of timeframes without being told.
  • Be able to help others without being asked and give advice.
  • Role model for the shop.
  • Strong skills in mentoring and training with the ability to give constructive feedback.
  • Leadership training is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and utilize is a must.
Additional Notes

Must have reliable transportation and show up to work on time every day. The ability to travel frequently and work varied hours including overtime as needed.
