Job summary

Shermco Industries seeks a NETA Field Service Technician, Senior to support electrical power system testing, maintenance and startup at client sites across Texas and nearby states. You will perform high/low voltage testing, transformer testing, relay calibration and data collection with safety as a priority.

Travel is required; you will rotate on-call, work overtime as needed, and must meet NETA and safety certification requirements. U.S. work authorization is required.

Qualifications

• Minimum: Associate’s degree in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC) or EE degree; military training accepted.
• NETA Certification (III or IV) preferred or electrician license.
• 5+ years of switchgear testing & troubleshooting experience.
• Proficient PC skills: email, internet, data entry, Excel; PowerDB a plus.

Responsibilities

• Travel to customer sites (industrial & commercial) to inspect, test, troubleshoot, start-up and collect data on HV/MV electrical systems.
• Test instrument transformers and perform power transformer testing (Doble, TTR, insulation resistance).
• Test both electro-mechanical and solid-state relays where possible; conduct cable testing (Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot).
• Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches; test low/medium/high voltage switchgear and circuit breakers.
• Calibrate relays, measure power parameters; rotate on-call duties and respond to emergencies.

Shermco Industries is accredited by NETA and has one of the largest field services divisions in the industry.

Responsibilities

• Field Service Test Technicians travel to customer sites (industrial & commercial) to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up and collect data of low, medium and high voltage (480 Volt to 600 kV) electrical systems.
• Able to travel to customer job sites across the state and bordering states.
• Instrument transformer tests.
• Power transformer testing - Doble, TTR, Insulation Resistance, etc.
• Preferred if proficient in testing both electro-mechanical and solid-state relays
• Cable testing - Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot.
• Automatic transfer switch troubleshooting.
• Low, Medium and High voltage switchgear and circuit breaker testing.
• Moderately complex relay calibration and power metering.
• Rotate emergency on-call duty and if called respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: to qualify for consideration, you must meet each of the following minimum qualifications and requirements.

• Prefer an Associate’s degree from an accredited 2 year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC), or a EE Degree from an ABET accredited college, similar experience and training from the military (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or NAVY Seabee)
• NETA Certification (III or IV) or similar desired or Electrician license preferred
• Must have at least 5 or more years of relevant experience performing switchgear testing & troubleshooting
• Must have good PC skills including email, internet, data entry and Microsoft Excel; experience with PowerDB a plus
• Must be able to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures
• Prefer OSHA 30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED training; training on each can be provided by Shermco
• Must be able to drive daily locally/regionally and be available for periodic overnight travel

Other Requirements:

• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and periodic, unannounced random drug tests
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check
• All offers are conditioned on acceptable results from a background check and drug and alcohol screening.
• Must be able to crawl, climb, stand and lift up to 100 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodations.
• Must be able to pass a fit for duty physical exam
• Must have a valid driver’s license, and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record
• Must be available for regular overnight domestic travel and occasional international travel
• U.S. passport & TWIC card a plus
• Must be willing to work flexible hours and overtime, and occasional weekends, holidays and nights.
