Job summary

Herc Rentals is seeking a Field Service Mechanic B to service equipment at customer job sites in Wake Forest, NC. You will perform preventative maintenance, diagnose and repair heavy machinery, and ensure safe operation in dynamic, on-site conditions.

The role requires reading schematics, owning a basic toolset, and the ability to work independently with strong safety awareness. Competitive pay and comprehensive benefits accompany a $2,500 sign-on bonus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read detailed schematics, manuals, and labels.
• Own a sufficient set of hand and electrical tools.
• Able to operate equipment such as boom lifts, forklifts, generators, hydraulics.
• Must be on call for operational support.
• Valid driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance on Herc fleet at customer sites.
• Conduct oil changes, lubrication, tire and battery work, and related services.
• Diagnose and repair heavy equipment to ensure safe operation.
• Troubleshoot fuel, electrical, hydraulic, and propane systems.
• Return equipment to working condition with replaced parts.
• Educate customers on proper equipment use to prevent breakdowns.
• Maintain clear service logs and reports; follow procedures.

Job Purpose

As a Field Service Mechanic B, you are an expert technician and will assume a support role in product knowledge and standards of quality within the branch . You will serve as a valued resource for utilizing your mechanical expertise to ensure Herc fleet remain in proper operating condition on our customer jobsites, at all times. Field Service Mechanics are dispatched to local jobsites at various times of the day and work independently without direct supervision. This provides the opportunity to build positive relationships with customers all while supporting the growth and improvement of your community.

What you will do...

• Maintain a consistent schedule of performing preventative maintenance of all Herc owned fleet at long term customer job sites
• Oversee and conduct oil changes, lubrication of equipment, tire replacements, hose repairs, battery replacements and assorted services
• Diagnose and repair heavy equipment as required to ensure proper operating condition at the job site
• Diagnose and troubleshoot fuel systems, electrical systems, hydraulic systems and propane systems
• Recondition and replace assorted parts to return equipment to a safely functioning state
• Educating customers on proper use of equipment to avoid future breakdowns
• Analyze problem areas for any significant wear or tear and address to ensure proper usage of the equipment until your next scheduled visit
• Adhere to all safety guidelines posted at active jobsite where repairs and maintenance are completed
• Maintain work area on jobsite in a clean and organized manner
• Produce timely and detailed service reports and repair logs
• Follow all company’s filed procedures and protocols
• Build positive relationships with customers
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements

• Highschool diploma or equivalent
• Ability to understand detailed technical schematics, owner manuals, and product warning labels
• Ownership of sufficient selection of hand and air/electric tools to complete most repairs and services
• Ability to operate and test equipment such as boom lifts, forklifts, compressors, portable and stationary generators, hydraulics, pumps and assorted tools and equipment
• Ability to be on call to support operational needs
• A valid driver’s license

Skills

• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills across all levels of the company
• Customer service skills to effectively engage with jobsite foremen and follow up in a timely manner
• Basic computer skills to open, close, and enter work orders
• Ability to safely handle tools, and operate a variety of vehicles and equipment

• Flexibility to adapt to changing needs on an active jobsite
• Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs. frequently
• Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors as required
• Ability to bend, crouch, squat, kneel, stoop, and perform repetitive tasks (stretching, turning, twisting, reaching overhead)

Pay Range:$27.00 - $32.00 per hour
