Location & Compensation

Salary: $37.00 – $51.20 per hour

Location: Albuquerque, NM

Role Overview

As a Field Service Engineer (Customer Engineer), you serve as the direct liaison with customers, collaborating closely to install, maintain, and upgrade equipment. You’ll use digital analytics for troubleshooting and apply basic diagnostic techniques to assess and address technical issues. Your responsibilities include performing preventative and corrective maintenance on various systems such as electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic, and gas systems. Additionally, you’ll coordinate and communicate directly with customers to ensure smooth operations and exceptional service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with installing leading‑edge customer equipment, performing scheduled preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance, and upgrading equipment
  • Follow procedures learned during training and published task plans to test equipment and diagnose and resolve technical problems
  • Complete required job documentation, safety training and procedures for processing parts
  • Professionally represent Applied Materials to the customer, using a customer‑first mindset
  • Satisfy on‑site safety, environmental and COVID‑19 guidelines
  • Train junior engineers on site‑related safety, troubleshooting procedures, and a customer‑first mindset
Qualifications
  • Associate degree in electronics or engineering technologies, equivalent work experience, or completion of military technical training and field experience
  • Ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on documenting details
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Advanced mechanical aptitude and knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum and/or thermodynamics
  • Strong knowledge of hand tools and proper usage, including a digital multimeter
Nice to Have
  • 4–7 years of work experience in the semiconductor industry or another equipment support industry
What to Expect
  • Work on rotation and in shifts so that customers have ongoing support
  • Physical requirements: lift at least 35 lbs; work in a clean room wearing coveralls, hood, booties, safety glasses, and gloves; sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch to reach equipment; stand for extended periods; determine differences in colors
  • Valid driver’s license and passport
