Job summary

Lam Research in Chandler, AZ seeks a seasoned Field Service Engineer to drive on-site support for Lam’s semiconductor equipment. You will install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot complex electro‑mechanical systems, working closely with customers and internal teams to ensure uptime and performance.

Ideal candidates have extensive electronics/engineering background, and are willing to travel domestically and internationally, with flexible shifts and on-site work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Electronics/Engineering with 12+ years experience
  • Master’s degree with 8+ years or equivalent
  • Experience with semiconductor capital equipment installation/maintenance/repair
  • Ability to read electrical/mechanical schematics and operation manuals
  • Able to work in cleanroom PPE environments
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally; shift flexibility

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver quality repair, maintenance, and start-up services at customer sites.
  • Analyze and solve problems across Lam products to component level.
  • Exercise judgment in methods and evaluation criteria to achieve results.
  • Provide expert solutions for complex technical issues.
  • Define and communicate problem statements and success criteria.
  • Coordinate resources to support customer response plans.
  • Run experiments/tests and generate reports.
  • Act as Lam SME and drive customer satisfaction.
  • Lead customer meetings with management and technical teams.
  • Own customer trust KPIs and discuss improvement opportunities.
  • Develop customer support plans and align resources.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers.
  • Set technical objectives and allocate resources.
  • Own site KPIs and drive improvements for goals.

The Customer Support Business Group focuses on enabling our customers with premier customersupport throughout their lifecycle with Lam. We drive performance, productivity, safety, andquality of customers installed base performance and deliver service and lifecycle solutionsfor their most critical equipment and processes.

The impact you’ll make

As a Field Service Engineer at Lam, you will step into the limelight of customer support. Your work goes beyond installations and troubleshooting; it ensures the operational excellence of our complex semiconductor equipment. You're on the front lines, understanding customer needs and collaborating with various teams to deliver solutions.

In this role, you will directly contribute to ___.

What you’ll do
  • Develop and provide solutions on quality repair, maintenance service, and complete installation/relocation start‑up services of Lam’s complex electro‑mechanical and electronic systems at customer sites.
  • Analyze and solve problems across a broad range of Lam products to the component level.
  • Exercise sound judgment in methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  • Develop solutions and provide expertise to solve complex technical engineering problems.
  • Ensure problem statements and success criteria are clearly defined and communicated.
  • Prioritize and align resources to support customer response plans.
  • Coordinate and run experiments/tests and generate reports.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, representing Lam to our valued customers, delivering exceptional customer satisfaction.
  • Partner directly with customer management, own and run regular and ad hoc customer meetings (executive and technical).
  • Own Customer Trust KPIs and transparently discuss opportunities and challenges to increase trust.
  • Develop customer support plan and align required resources.
  • Provide technical instruction, leadership, and mentoring for more junior engineers.
  • Exercise latitude in developing technical objectives and resources.
  • Own site/customer KPIs and lead improvements to meet agreed upon goals.
Who we’re looking for
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Engineering, or related field with 12+ years of work experience; or Master’s degree with 8+ years; or equivalent work experience.
  • Previous experience in installation, maintenance, repair, or troubleshooting of semiconductor capital equipment.
  • Proficiency in interpreting electrical and mechanical schematics, diagrams, and operation manuals.
  • Able to work in a clean room environment while wearing personal protective safety equipment, or cleanroom suit.
  • Frequently position oneself (e.g., bend, stoop, reach, walk, sit, twist, squat, kneel, climb, stand) to perform job tasks for extended periods.
  • Able to travel frequently, domestically and internationally, based on customer needs, flexibility to work a variety shifts including compressed and alternative workweeks including overtime and on‑call if needed.
Preferred qualifications
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills and familiarity with common office software including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Communication skills, both written and verbal, in English.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision‑making skills.
