Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Field Service Engineer to provide technical support for a complex telecom system, including development, testing, deployment, sustainment and QA. The role covers surveys, installation packages, equipment installation, configurations, commissioning tests and quality control.

You will engage with customers and vendors, participate in status calls, and prepare deliverables such as SSRs and SES. Travel to CONUS/OCONUS sites and compliance with DISA guidelines are expected.

Qualifications

• BS degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
• Experience with surveys, installations, and cable terminations.
• Familiarity with Cisco/Ciena equipment and IT&A processes.
• Knowledge of DoD design and installation guidelines is a plus.

Description

We have an IMMEDIATE NEED for a Field Service Engineer to provide technical support for the development, test, deployment, sustainment and quality assurance of a complex telecommunication system. You will be a member of a team that interacts with technical and non-technical teammates, including customers and vendors. In this role, you will be required to conduct surveys, assist with the designing of installation packages, conduct equipment and cable installations, administer configurations, provide technical assistance, support commissioning testing, troubleshoot, and resolve issues associated with the various network elements.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assists with development of method of procedures (MOP).
• Assists with creation of IBOM, MBOM, Master TRBOM (Manufacturing Bill of Materials) for site installations.
• Ensure that all implementation activities use consistent and proven processes, that these processes be modified and improved as necessary, and are used across all types of implementations.
• Execute the actions identified in the TSIP to accomplish the tasks required to install and integrate test & activate (IT&A) systems into operational readiness.
• Participate in daily status calls and articulate accomplishments, current project status, identify challenges, and projection.
• Assists with compilation of information to articulate accomplishments, current project status, identify challenges, and projection for the daily status report (DSR).
• Conduct site survey, install, testing and de-install, and quality control activities to ensure the project stays on schedule and quality of deliverables are achieved.
• Work with team to perform detailed and technically in-depth site surveys and quality control aspects for Defense Information Systems Network (DISN) in CONUS and OCONUS locations as required to assess/analyze site preparedness and develop implementation plans, power requirements, and associated cost estimates.
• Conduct installation/de-installation/upgrade/interface actions associated with network components at stakeholders' locations.
• Coordinates with users, site/base support and or facilities personnel, network manager(s) and controllers, long haul and local carriers for installation, cutover, activation, deactivation planning and execution.
• Work with team to develop Site Survey Report (SSR) to meet project milestones, objectives, and deliverables.
• Assist with the creation of Site Engineering Solution (SES) to meeting project milestones, objectives, and deliverables.
• Work with Logistics lead to assist in solidifying IBOM/MBOM procurement requirements and meet project milestones, objectives, and deliverables.
• Perform configurations on Cisco, Ciena, Safenet network elements per Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) guidelines.
• Perform hands-on installation test and acceptance (IT&A) and quality validation of network components and/or facilitating remote testing with off-site Operations Engineering support.
• Collaborate with partners to coordinate and perform project objectives to include site surveys, installations, testing, site deinstallations, quality control and provide customer-ready deliverable reports upon completion.
• Supports senior staff as required and ensures customer requirements and project milestones are met.
• Assist with updates to TSIP packages which include master redline drawings, SES, SSR, 1149, SCL, CLR, and Test Results.
• Ability to review and understand detailed project plans and schedules, allocated resources, product delivery schedules, project estimates, work-breakdown structure (WBS), resource plans, and status reports to fully support enterprise-level requirements.
• Provide technical support to customers and other service professionals as required.
• Maintains clear and concise business communication proficiency, both oral and written.
• Travel, and work hours other than Monday-Friday may be required.
• Comply with all applicable U.S. export control and security regulations.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have an active Secret security clearance.
• Experience with surveys, installations, pulling and terminating cable, determining, and implementing required pin outs, installing, and configuring Ciena equipment, cards power supplies, racks, patch panels, etc., testing, and documenting installations, dressing, and labeling cables, racks, patch panels, etc.

• Job requires frequent bending, stooping, twisting, turning, and working in unusual positions requiring full body mobility.
• Working knowledge of Ciena 6500, Ciena 5160, Ciena 5171, and other ancillary equipment.
• Must have experience with DC power systems.
• Knowledgeable and proficient in M.S. Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), specifically Visio.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Must be always responsive to customer issues and requests. Must be willing & able to travel at short notice.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders, and perform other installation activities.
• Experience briefing Government customers and stakeholders
• Ability to work in a team focused, fast paced, dynamic environment
• Ability to travel extensively.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Typically requires BS and 4 - 8 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 2 - 6 years of prior relevant experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• DoD Directive 8570 Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II (such as CompTIA Security+ CE) certification or higher.
• ITIL v3 Foundation Certification
• BICSI certification
• Field Service Engineering experience
• Ciena Certification

Pay Range

Pay Range $73,450.00 - $132,775.00
