Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a skilled Physical Security Specialist to support safety and resilience across Highways West facilities. The role focuses on fieldwork, technology oversight, and collaboration with diverse teams to protect people and assets.

You will conduct security surveys, oversee CCTV and access control installations, and develop policies and training to strengthen readiness for emergencies and incidents.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of physical security principles, risk management strategies, and security technologies applicable to transportation and field-based environments.
• Experience conducting vulnerability assessments and evaluating security risks for facilities and operations.
• Experience collaborating with law enforcement, emergency responders, and contractors.
• Bachelor's degree and five years of progressively responsible related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physical security surveys and vulnerability assessments across DOT Highways West facilities.
• Oversee installation and performance of security technologies such as CCTV, access control, alarms, and perimeter detection.
• Develop and update physical security policies, procedures, and standards in line with state and federal requirements.
• Assist with investigations involving theft, vandalism, workplace violence, or security breaches and support emergency response measures.
• Develop Continuity of Operations plans and deliver security awareness and training to field staff.
