Job summary

Firematic is seeking an experienced Refuse Mechanic to join our service team. The role involves on-site diagnostics, repair, and maintenance for refuse collection vehicles across New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.

You will diagnose hydraulic and electrical systems, perform field repairs, and operate a company service truck. Ideal candidates have 3+ years in diesel/heavy-duty/refuse trucking, a strong mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work independently at customer sites.

Qualifications

• 3+ years as a diesel/heavy-duty/refuse truck mechanic
• Experience diagnosing hydraulic and electrical systems in refuse trucks
• Familiarity with McNeilus, Heil, Labrie or similar refuse bodies is a plus
• Valid driver’s license; CDL a plus
• Able to lift up to 75 lbs and work outdoors year-round

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on refuse collection vehicles at customer sites.
• Service hydraulic and electrical systems, compaction equipment, and lifting arms.
• Conduct preventive maintenance including inspections, adjustments and part replacements.
• Operate service truck equipped with tools and parts to complete field repairs.
• Document work performed, parts used, and service recommendations.
• Communicate with customers to explain issues, timelines, and solutions.
• Ensure safety standards are followed at all times.
