Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan Inc. seeks a skilled mechanic to safely diagnose, maintain, and repair pump systems and related equipment at the Bagdad, Arizona facility.

The role involves troubleshooting pumps, performing preventive maintenance, and fabricating components as required, with opportunities to mentor others and operate diverse equipment in an industrial setting. Ideal candidates have 2 years of mechanical maintenance experience, a valid driver’s license, and proficiency in welding.

Qualifications

  • Two (2) years’ experience in mechanical/maintenance crafts.
  • Completed academic and practical competencies required; including line of progression where applicable.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written safety instructions in English.
  • Ability to communicate in English regarding job assignments and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and perform removal, repair and installation of pumps, pipelines, water systems, and related components.
  • Perform mechanical and lubrication maintenance on pumping systems; monitor bearings, temps, packing; check for wear.
  • Prioritize repairs and make decisions on equipment maintenance.
  • Maintain work orders and conduct work area inspections.
  • Train and mentor other employees; perform advanced welding and fabrication as needed.

Description

Highly skilled mechanic who safely perform diagnostic, maintenance and repair of pump systems and associated equipment.

  • Troubleshoot and perform the removal, repair and installation of pumps, pipelines, fire water systems, interceptor wells, potable water systems, hydraulic systems and their associated parts.
  • Perform mechanical and lubrication preventative maintenance on pumping systems by checking bearings “grease and purge”, motor temp, coupling temp, adjusting packing, checking for visual and vibration signs of breakdown ext.
  • Prioritize and make decisions regarding equipment repair as needed.
  • Responsible for maintaining work orders and performing work area inspections.
  • Train and mentor other employees.
  • Perform advanced welding (Stick, Mig, Intershield, Drisco Fusion) and fabrication of brackets, headers and other related components.
  • May operate equipment such as: trucks, bobcats, forklifts, mobile cranes, backhoes, loaders, road graders, and small mobile equipment.
  • Act as a Fill-in Supervisor as required.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Two (2) years’ experience in mechanical/maintenance crafts (including welder, boilermaker, machinist or facility maintenance/construction) or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair and maintenance.
  • Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required mechanical aptitude.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • FPM Diagnostic Mechanic I: The selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and technical skills while achieving 35% score on a written assessment where required. This exam is based on technical skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge; as well as safety. Must be able to demonstrate proficient basic welding skills.
  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures in English
  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
  • Knowledge of APP inspections
  • Ability to prioritize repairs and possess excellent decision-making skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot machine systems
  • Ability to work and effectively communicate with others in a team environment
  • Must be proficient in multiple types of welding, fabrication and layout
  • Knowledge of blue stake process
  • Ability to install bearings
  • Demonstrate safety as a core value

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Previous experience with Pumps, Piping and related systems
  • Basic computer skills

Criteria/Conditions:

  • This is a Safety sensitive role
  • While performing duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear, see and work in confined spaces
  • Work is performed in a mining or industrial environment which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
  • Occasionally may be asked required to life moderately heavy to heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the course of the workday
  • May be required to work rotating shifts in a 24/7/365 operation
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required

The estimated pay range for this role is currently$27.00 - $36.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors.
