Job summary

Farmers in Minnesota is seeking a Field Property Claims Adjuster to conduct on-site and virtual investigations, assess property damage, determine liability, and negotiate fair settlements. The role includes travel to policyholder residences and use of claims software, a company car, and a laptop.

You will interact with policyholders, agents, witnesses and contractors, provide excellent customer service, and maintain professional standards.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Excellent customer service experience, preferably in a retail environment.
• Construction or Insurance experience is highly desirable and preferred.
• Excellent communication skills – both oral and written.
• Computer literate: MS Word, Excel, Outlook.
• Proficiency with smartphones and applications.
• Eagerness to learn about insurance policies and property damage to identify how coverage applies to a loss.
• Outgoing personality that would enjoy interacting with policyholders, claimants, agents, witnesses, and investigators.
• Valid driver\'s license and Bondable; background check may be required for a company vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Conduct on-site and virtual investigations by visiting policyholders\' residences to assess damage and negotiate settlements.
• Use claims software, a company car, and a laptop to write estimates in a paperless environment.
• Evaluate subrogation opportunities and report incidents to authorities when needed.
• Interact with policyholders, claimants, agents, witnesses, and contractors; maintain professionalism.
• Promote safety and adhere to company standards and training.

A Day in the Life of a Field Property Claims Adjuster

• Conduct both virtual and on‑site investigations by visiting policyholders’ residences to assess propertydamage, determine liability, evaluate the extent of loss, and negotiate fair settlements.
• Use claims handling software, a company car, and a laptop to determine claims‑related damage and write estimates in a paperless environment.
• Evaluate and report on potential subrogation opportunities.
• Reports incidents involving theft, fraud, or arson to appropriate state and industry agencies.
• Perform duties independently, with work directly impacting management outcomes.
• Acts as a company representative in public interactions, maintaining a professional demeanor consistentwith management standards.
• Engages regularly with a variety of stakeholders, including policyholders, claimants, agents, witnesses, contractors, law enforcement, fraud and arson investigators, attorneys, medical professionals, and other relevant parties.
• Use strong customer service skills to negotiate with policyholders to settle the claim.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.
• Promotes safety at all times and complies with safety/ergonomic standards as outlined in relevant company published manuals.

Employees assigned to the Catastrophe team will be required to travel away from their residence for a specified period of time, usually consisting of 23 days.

• Although this is not a CAT‑specific role, hires will be expected to commit to 1–3 CAT deployments per year.

• Valid driver's license and Bondable. Final candidates will also be subject to a Motor Vehicle Record background check as this position may include a company vehicle.

Candidates Must be Willing and Able to:

• Climb Ladders to inspect roofs, and be comfortable working on rooftops, multiple times per day,
• Work in small, confined spaces that have been damaged; such as attics and crawlspaces.
• Achieve a minimum passing score on all claims training exams.
