Job summary

Matrix PDM Engineering in the United States seeks a Field Project Engineer III to oversee design and project management teams, coordinate technical deliverables, and support discipline engineering for major projects.

You will develop conceptual and basic engineering documents, serve as the primary client contact, and supervise field construction activities while ensuring adherence to contract documents and good engineering practices. Travel across North America is required.

Qualifications

  • Five or more years of heavy industrial experience in field engineering, project engineering, or construction management.
  • Industry experience in chemical plants, liquid terminals, LNG or other natural gas liquids.
  • Understanding of industrial construction processes and construction technologies.
  • Willingness to learn and cross-discipline knowledge across mechanical, electrical, instrumentation.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee design and project management teams to ensure timely technical deliverables.
  • Develop conceptual and basic engineering documents including PFDs and major equipment specifications.
  • Serve as the primary technical contact with the client on major projects.
  • Monitor project schedules and manage change orders and cost controls.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with contract documents and good engineering practices.
  • Provide technical support to Project Managers and monitor invoices and submittals.

Job description

Job Summary

The Field Project Engineer III is responsible for overseeing and monitoring the design and project management team on behalf of the Business Unit. The position will monitor and coordinate the technical deliverables required for projects, including supporting discipline engineering as well as managing the basic engineering for the project. Develop the conceptual and basic engineering documents including the system layout, equipment arrangements, design criteria, PFD and major equipment specifications. Serve as the primary technical contact with the client on major projects. Oversee technical communication on minor or single-discipline efforts.

Essential Functions
  • Actively supports the Company's commitment to safety and its "Core Values".

  • Monitors the development of the overall system design including assuring that the proper sequence of engineering is followed for the projects.
  • Works with the project delivery team to deliver a quality product as well as maintain schedule and achieve overall project success for the project and client.
  • Oversees that all work is performed in accordance with approved manuals and procedures.
  • Oversees that the project is constructed and documented in accordance with the contract documents and good engineering practices.
  • Provides technical support to Project Managers and responsible for developing and maintaining project cost/change controls, project budget and accounting records.
  • Performs change order estimating and assists the Project Manager in change order negotiations.
  • Coordinates and monitors schedule updates, invoices and submittals.
  • Assists in managing and reviewing the progress of contractors' construction schedules.
  • Reviews weekly and monthly reports on the status and progress of the contracts, including project costs and potential changes.
  • Reports the status of projects to business / market leader.
  • Attends client program meetings as needed.
  • Oversees construction quality assurance.
  • Performs other responsibilities as required or assigned.
  • Investigates engineering and field issues to develop mutually acceptable solutions.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering, or Construction Management or other related discipline required.
  • 5+ years of heavy industrial experience in field engineering, project engineering, or construction management required.
  • Demonstrated experience in one of the following industries: chemical plants, liquid terminals, natural gas liquids or liquid natural gas.
  • Understanding of industrial construction processes, structures, and construction technologies.
  • General understanding of all engineering disciplines. Strength in mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation preferred with willingness to learn.
  • Ability to analyze problems, make technical decisions, and implement adequate solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience following quality assurance and control procedures.
  • Travel Requirements - Initial assignments will be field positions at construction sites throughout North America with periodic stints in an office.
  • Physical Demands - Light physical effort required to sit or stand, reach, bend, and move about facility (including ladders and stairs).
