Job summary

The City of Elko is seeking a Patrol Officer to perform general duty law enforcement duties including patrol, investigations, traffic enforcement, dispatch and related tasks.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent; Nevada driver’s license; POST certification; must be 21+; background clear of major crimes; experience in police work or dealing with the public is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework in police science preferred.
• Background must be clear of gross misdemeanors, felonies, and major crimes.
• Must hold valid State of Nevada driver's license.
• Must be at least 21 years of age; POST certification.
• Basic Peace Officers Standard and Training Certificate (POST).

Responsibilities

• Patrols the city in a radio-equipped car to preserve law and order, prevent crime, direct traffic, enforce regulations and issue citations.
• Answers calls and complaints involving fires, accidents, robberies, disturbances, animals and other misdemeanors and felonies.
• Refer animal control situations to animal control officer.
• Secure crime scenes, administer first aid, conduct preliminary investigations, gather evidence, obtain witnesses, make arrests, set up road blocks, testify in court.
• Prepare daily activity logs and detailed accident reports.
• Interview individuals with complaints and inquiries and direct them to proper authorities.
• Recite laws and ordinances and provide information to the public.
• Attend regular training sessions as directed by departmental orders.
• Perform related work as required.
