Job summary

Mark Thomas in Inland Empire, Ontario, CA 91764 is seeking a Field Party Chief to manage field survey crews on large, multi-year public works projects. You will plan surveys, coordinate field teams, and ensure data quality and safety in the field.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must be a member in good standing with the Operating Engineers Local 3 (NorCal) Union or able to join and qualify as Party Chief.
• Must have a valid California driver’s license.
• Familiar with Trimble equipment and surveying software.
• Willingness to travel within the OE12 area.
• Knowledge of Caltrans standards, coordinate geometry and state plane coordinates is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Acts as party chief for a field survey crew engaged in surveys for construction, topographic, right-of-way, and control projects; participates in pre-survey planning meetings and assigns work.
• Gathers field survey data using conventional methods and GPS; sets up and operates surveying equipment; prepares field notes and drawings.
• Performs surveying calculations and analyzes raw data for accuracy and closure.
• Performs the duties of the Party Chief and acts as Project Surveyor in supervisor’s absence; conducts field surveys and staking.
• Trains crew on the latest surveying technology and methods.
• May perform mapping review or related office duties to fulfill training requirements.

The Chief of Party collaborates with our talented team of seasoned surveying and engineering staff to deliver public works projects and improve our communities. You will plan and evaluate proposed field survey projects, manage the field survey teams, prepare, process and coordinate the required control boundary and field design survey work and daily survey logs. Additionally, the Survey Party Chief will lead the company's field survey team in the field. RESPONSIBILITIES

• Acts as party chief for a field survey crew engaged in making surveys for construction, topographic, right-of-way, and control survey projects; participates in pre-survey planning meetings with project managers; assigns and monitors work and provides input for evaluation of members of the field survey crew
• Gathers field survey data through use of conventional and Global Positioning System (GPS) methods; sets up, adjusts, and operates surveying equipment, including electronic total station, data collector, and GPS equipment, in order to measure distances, elevations, and angles; prepares field notes and drawings; performs field surveying for roadway, bridges, and flood control projects
• Performs surveying calculations using engineering calculator or data collector; analyzes raw data for mathematical closure and geometric accuracy
• Performs the duties of the Party Chief and acts as Project Surveyor in supervisor’s absence; performs field surveys, including staking, boundary control
• Trains other crew members on the latest technology in surveying equipment and finds new and innovative ways of doing surveys
• May perform mapping review or other related office survey duties as a temporary assignment to satisfy the training/experience requirement for the Professional Land Surveyor's License

QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Must be a member in good standing with the Operating Engineers Local 3 (NorCal) Union or ability to join and qualify as Party Chief
• Must have a valid California driver’s license and meet and maintain Company driver eligibility requirements
• Preferred previous TWIC card holders
• Proficient with Trimble Equipment, including Total Stations, Levels, Global Positioning Systems, Data Collection equipment and software
• Must be able to understand construction plans, cut sheets, and take good field notes / sketches
• Some company paid travel in OE12area required
• A working knowledge of Caltrans standards, coordinate geometry and state plane coordinates is a plus

*Compensation for this position is subject to California state prevailing wage rate determinations and the provisions of our collective bargaining agreements with the OE12. Range provided for covered work includes Chief of Party to Certified Chief of Party.
