Job summary

Kiewit invites motivated students to join our Southwest District as an Office Engineer Intern. This internship offers hands-on experience across field, office engineering, and estimating roles, with exposure to heavy civil, transportation, and water projects.

You will assist in interpreting drawings, preparing work plans, and supporting project data; travel and relocation are expected as projects span the nation.

Qualifications

• Must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field.
• Experience in leadership and management of people, communication (written and verbal), planning, and organization.
• Willingness to travel and relocate to various cities as business requires.

Responsibilities

• Assist in interpreting drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision.
• Perform quantity calculations by taking measurements and determining completed work.
• Assist in preparation of work plans and work packages.
• Assist in field surveying and layout support including elevation and control points.
• Record daily labor timesheets and prepare JHA's (Job Hazard Analysis).
• Provide solutions related to heavy civil, transportation and water projects.
• Participate in jobsite safety reviews and toolbox meetings.
• Order and schedule material deliveries; plan and coordinate work groups.
• Supervise field operations.
• Assist in material takeoffs and basic engineering calculations to support field operations.
• Prepare data for submittals to customers, vendors, and subcontractors.
• Assist in preparing purchase orders and subcontracts; perform minor solicitations.
