The position requires travel within Central Indiana and occasional broader region coverage, with standard 9:00

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering or related field.
  • 1–2 years’ experience in field engineering.
  • Experience with CBRS, LTE/LTE-A, and 5G wireless tech.
  • Knowledge of DAS products and commissioning.
  • Experience with iBwave Design and reading plans.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain DAS systems under contract, including commissioning and turn-up.
  • Troubleshoot field-level issues for wireless system performance.
  • Perform site surveys and gather engineering requirements with customers.
  • Create test and optimization plans for in-building wireless deployments.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to update as-builts and design references.
  • Provide on-site training as required.

Regular travel throughout Central Indiana, including Indianapolis, Muncie, Lafayette, Carmel, Fishers, Bloomington, Frankfort, and Indianapolis Airport. Occasional travel to the Cincinnati/Dayton area may be required. Candidates should be centrally located within the region.

Schedule:

This role follows a standard 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM schedule, with occasional evening work for maintenance windows or system turn-ups based on customer needs. On-call coverage is also required to respond to unplanned system outages per customer SLAs; while on-call incidents are infrequent, coverage must be available at all times.

Job Summary:

The Field Maintenance Wireless Engineer is responsible for technical project quality for DAS systems under maintenance contract for small, medium, and large venue wireless DAS projects. The Field Wireless Maintenance Engineer acts as a company engineering representative at base or remote locations, including customer and supplier facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain DAS systems under contract, including commissioning, integration, decommissioning, test, and turn-up of telecommunications equipment
    • Troubleshoot issues raised by customers, Network Operations Center (NOC), and service providers, including complex field-level troubleshooting, and serve as a technical resource for wireless system issues
    • Light repair of systems including but not limited to remote unit replacements, head end equipment swaps, terminating and testing coax, and possible fiber repair
    • Maintain spares inventory and RMA equipment
  • Conduct site surveys and facilitate engineering requirement gathering with customers for system changes and new initiatives such as expansion, or removal of equipment
  • Interpret and communicate customer concerns and issues discovered to internal project stakeholders; facilitate discussion and resolution of issues relating to engineering standards
  • Partner with internal resources to identify equipment related to installation and repair of equipment projects
  • Work with internal project stakeholders in maintaining as-builts through system changes
  • Guide construction teams to implement necessary design changes in the field while not compromising design integrity
  • Create test and optimization plans, review field data, guide performance enhancements for In-Building wireless system deployments, and observe and document best practices to implement standards that continually improve In-Building wireless system design and installation efforts
  • Administer on-site field training programs as required
  • Ability to assist with iBwave Designs, and other projects specifying equipment and labor tasks outside of specified maintained sites.

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors, on ladders, and in confined spaces
  • Ability to work with/around electrical wires and/or ESD products
  • Ability to work remotely at construction or installation sites

Skills and Abilities Required

  • Ability to operate and support performance testing with Ues and scanners, using Rhode & Schwarz, PCTEL,, WINd, or other collection equipment
  • Ability to perform sweeps, connectorize coax, perform smaller troubleshooting tasks and provide solutions to any issues encountered
  • Ability to use spectrum analyzers, power meters, PIM testers, signal generators, and OTDRs to perform troubleshooting and provide solutions to issues
  • Ability to learn and adapt to changing technologies, standards, and certification requirements
  • Ability to work independently, while retaining the ability to work collaboratively within a team to solve operational challenges to Telamon’s advantage

Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills

  • Proficiency with MS Office

Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering or related field plus 1 – 2 years’ experience in field engineering; OR equivalent experience in field engineering work
  • Working knowledge of wireless technologies including CBRS, LTE, LTE-A and next gen 5G
  • Working knowledge of installation, testing and commissioning of RF repeater/BDA and small cell products
  • Working knowledge of Corning/One, ADRF, Andrew/Commscope, Solid, TEKO, and other DAS product lines. Commissioning and installation certification preferred.
  • Working knowledge of iBwave Design, Viewer and reading iBwave plans
