Jack DYKSTRA Excavating Inc. in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a Field Laborer / Pipe Layer to join our crew. You will assist with installing underground water, sewer, and storm lines while working outdoors on active job sites.

This role emphasizes safety, reliability, and the ability to perform demanding physical labor. Training is provided for the right candidate, and opportunities to advance within the company are available.

Qualifications

• Prior experience in excavation or construction preferred, but training offered.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather.
• Strong work ethic and reliability.
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs daily.
• Valid driver’s license preferred.
• Knowledge of grades, trench safety, and pipe installation is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist with installation of underground pipe (water, sewer, storm).
• Set pipe grade using lasers and grade rods.
• Work in trenches and around heavy equipment safely.
• Load/unload materials and tools.
• Assist equipment operators and foremen as needed.
• Perform general labor duties such as shoveling, grading, and site cleanup.
• Follow all safety procedures and company policies.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a dependable and hardworking Field Laborer / Pipe Layer to join our crew. This position involves assisting with the installation of underground utilities including water, sewer, and storm systems. The ideal candidate is motivated, safety-conscious, and able to work in a physically demanding outdoor environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with installation of underground pipe (water, sewer, storm)
• Set pipe grade using lasers and grade rods
• Work in trenches and around heavy equipment safely
• Load/unload materials and tools
• Assist equipment operators and foremen as needed
• Perform general labor duties such as shoveling, grading, and site cleanup
• Follow all safety procedures and company policies
