Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) Birmingham seeks a Construction Materials Testing Technician to perform field and laboratory tests, supervise inspections, and ensure quality on diverse construction sites. You will travel extensively, collect samples, document testing activities, and collaborate with the project team to meet specifications.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent education.
• 2+ years’ experience performing multi-discipline special inspections & tests.
• Knowledge of local building codes.
• Ability to achieve ICC certification within 2 years of hire, if not held at hire.
• Ability to achieve ACI Field Concrete Testing Technician Level I certification within 1 year of hire.
• Nuclear Safety Training.
• Valid Driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to use Microsoft programs and MetaField software.

Responsibilities

• Perform site observations of earthwork, backfill, excavations, and foundation construction and conduct material testing and inspections.
• Collect samples and perform tests to monitor compliance with construction specifications.
• Travel to job sites using company vehicles and interact with Design Team, Building Officials, Contractors, and Clients.
• Document inspections and testing activities electronically through an online database with logs, items, and photo records.
• Coordinate with Project Managers and provide constant on-site communication.
• Clean and maintain equipment and vehicles in proper working order.
• Perform other tasks directed by supervisor.
