Job summary

Valar Atomics is hiring an Instrumentation & Controls Specialist to lead field installation, calibration, and commissioning of instrumentation for the nuclear fuel manufacturing site in Utah. You will supervise I&C technicians, ensure calibration integrity, and coordinate with engineers, operations, and safety teams to maintain reliability and safety.

The role emphasizes hands-on execution, adherence to regulatory requirements, and direct contribution to plant startup and ongoing

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent hands-on I&C experience; four-year degree not required.
  • 7+ years hands-on I&C in process, chemical, power, or nuclear facilities.
  • Experience planning commissioning: loop checks, functional tests, punch list closure.
  • Expert calibration, configuration, and troubleshooting of field instrumentation.

Responsibilities

  • Install, calibrate, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain field instrumentation and devices.
  • Calibrate and maintain control valves, actuators, positioners, and regulators; perform tests.
  • Plan, lead, and execute commissioning activities and turn over to operations.
  • Guard and document loop checks, calibration verification, and interlock testing.
  • Supervise I&C technicians; manage training records and task qualifications.
  • Own instrument calibration program, including scheduling and records.
  • Configure smart devices using HART, manage asset files and diagnostics.
  • Terminate wiring; ensure safe installations per NEC/IEC in hazardous areas.
  • Support safety instrumented systems testing and documentation.
  • Provide field feedback to I&C Engineering on installability and maintainability.
  • Direct contractor/vendor crews on I&C scope and ensure quality.
