Job summary

SGS is seeking a Field Inspector I to perform inspection and sampling of grain and food oil transport systems, and to assist with loading/unloading processes in compliance with regulations. The role requires climbing and lifting up to 60 pounds, and entails documenting activities with notes and photos.

We offer a field-oriented position with rotating day and night shifts, requiring a High School Diploma, TWIC card, and an active driver's license. Rate: $20–$22 per hour.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Inspects and samples containers and barges at various locations.
• Supervises loading and counts of product (wood pellets) per standards and procedures.
• Measures, weighs, samples, and takes temperatures of products as applicable.
• Calculates transferred quantities and reconciles them.
• Transports commodity samples between terminals and office.
• May perform basic laboratory testing under supervision.
• Documents field activities with detailed notes and photographs.
• Maintains communication with administrative staff regarding job status and progress.
• Adheres to latest industry and client procedures and SGS policies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Under general supervision, the Field Inspector I performs inspection of grain and food oil transport systems and loading/ unloading processes, and sampling of grains, food oils, and other commodities per established government regulations and standard operating procedures.

Job Functions

• Performs Inspection/sampling of containers and barges at different locations
• Supervises loading and counts of product (wood pellets) in accordance with applicable standards and procedures
• Physically measures, weighs, samples, and takes temperatures (where applicable) of a variety of products in accordance with applicable standards and procedures
• This role will require climbing ladders at heights above 6 feet.
• This role requires some heavy lifting - up to 60 pounds.
• Calculates the transferred quantities (where applicable) and performs full reconciliation of the same
• Transports commodity samples from the loading terminals to the office and vice versa
• May perform basic laboratory testing of samples under supervision
• Takes detailed notes and photographs to document the inspection process, and reports all required field activities as per National/Regional field forms
• Maintains regular communication with administrative staff with reference to job status, progress, problems, etc
• Stays informed of and adheres to the latest industry and client procedures
• At all times, adopts safe behavior by exercising due regard for the health and safety of SGS employees and clients, in line with SGS policies and procedures
• At all times, comply with the SGS Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct
• Adheres to internal standards, policies, and procedures
• Performs other duties as assigned

Rotating schedule with day and night shifts.
