Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a Healthcare Advocate based in Honolulu, HI, to be a strategic partner to physicians, medical groups, IPAs, and hospitals. The role focuses on accurate documentation, coding, and RAF/quality program execution across Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and ACA lines.

The position involves 80% field travel to engage providers with Optum tools, develop provider-specific plans, and drive improvements in coding accuracy and CMS compliance.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of healthcare experience with medical terminology knowledge
• 2+ years of EMR systems experience
• Experience in physician offices, clinics, hospitals, or similar settings
• Knowledge of ICD-10, HEDIS, and Stars programs
• Proficiency in MS Office with data manipulation and presentations
• Ability to identify automation opportunities and leverage AI to improve productivity and quality
• Reside in Honolulu, HI area and travel up to 80%
• Driver's license, reliable transportation, and insurance for daily travel

Responsibilities

• Act as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to providers and medical groups
• Travel independently across the assigned territory (approx. 80% field-based) to engage providers in Optum tools and programs
• Deploy prospective programs to achieve business goals and metrics
• Use data analysis to identify providers who benefit from training resources
• Establish long-term consultative relationships with physicians, medical groups, IPAs and hospitals
• Develop provider-specific plans to improve RAF, coding specificity and gap closure
• Manage end-to-end Risk Adjustment and Quality programs including In-Office Assessments
• Advise on documentation and coding gaps to improve CMS compliance
• Guide on EMR/EHR issues affecting documentation and coding accuracy
• Collaborate with teams to implement prospective programs
• Educate providers on Medicare quality programs and CMS-HCC Risk Adjustment
• Support alignment with ICD-10 and CPT II coding guidelines
• Deliver ICD-10 HCC coding training and develop tools for staff
• Provide measurable solutions to improve documentation and coding accuracy
• Partner with physicians, coders and facility staff on Risk Adjustment education
• Assist in chart collection and analysis
• Demonstrate strong communication to engage stakeholders
• Work independently with prioritization and deadlines
