Field Geologist

Job summary

Terracon is seeking a Geologist to evaluate subsurface data, oversee field monitoring, and interpret soil, bedrock, and groundwater information for site investigations and remediation efforts. This role supports projects focusing on earthwork and foundations.

You will conduct field visits, collect samples, and coordinate with field staff to ensure quality, safety, and timely data delivery while developing investigative plans for field-based studies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology or related field with at least 1 year of related experience.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history may be required.
• Certification in field of expertise (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Follow safety rules and report safety issues to management.
• Maintain quality standards on all projects.
• Conduct site visits, field observations and data collection.
• Assist in data analysis from sampling, reports, maps, drawings, tests and aerial photographs.
• Conduct water and soil sampling.
• Direct field staff to sample, test and collect data for client projects.
• Outline investigative programs and select proper site study techniques.
• Limited client contact for specific projects.

Job description

General Responsibilities:

Evaluate and interpret subsurface field and sampling data including soil and groundwater to develop conclusions concerning the environmental and geologic site conditions. Oversee field monitoring and testing of soils including boring investigations and soil type classification. Interpret soil, bedrock and groundwater elevation and quality data. Prepare written plans and reports related to site investigations, assessments and remediation activities. Projects may include construction projects focusing on earthwork and structural foundations.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

• Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.


• Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.


• Developing level Geologist responsible for conducting analyses of component portions of projects; assignments are designed to develop knowledge and abilities.


• Performs site visits, field observations and field data collection or assignments.


• Assists in the collection and analysis of data from sampling, reports, maps, drawings, tests and aerial photographs to evaluate, plan and permit projects.


• Conducts water, soil and other sampling.


• Implements technical requirements to complete client projects by directing field staff to sample, test and collect data and/or document site activities.


• Outlines required investigative program(s) by selecting the proper alternative techniques to conduct site studies in field of expertise.


• May have limited client contact pertaining to specific projects/tasks.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology or related field and a minimum of 1 year related experience.


• A valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history may be required.
