Field Engineering Specialist

This position reports to

Field Service Manager

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will execute service work according to work instructions, ABB quality, and safety guidelines. You will deliver quality customer service by planning and executing service tasks aligned with customer orders and expectations. You will demonstrate your expertise by ensuring customer retention through effective communication of service work timelines and expectations. The work model is remote, contributing to the Motion division in the US. Your main responsibilities include:

  1. Collaborating with on-site customers to identify opportunities for operational improvements and pain point elimination.
  2. Performing field service tasks, diagnosing technical issues, and conducting analyses through remote or on-site activities for certified service categories and products.
  3. Preparing material lists for service activities and ensuring all materials, parts, and equipment are available and of suitable quality.
  4. Acting as a trainer for field service associates and customers when needed.
Qualifications for the role
  • Associate degree with 3 years of relevant experience, or high school diploma/GED with 5 years of relevant experience, or 5 years of military education/experience. A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a technical field with 1 year of relevant experience is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in installing, testing, repairing, or troubleshooting AC/DC drive systems and controls.
  • Ability to interpret circuit diagrams, wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, technical manuals, and specifications.
  • Willingness to travel up to 80% and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Availability to provide technical support during evenings and weekends on a rotating schedule.
  • Work environment involves working near moving mechanical parts, in high or precarious places, outdoors, and exposure to extreme heat, electrical shocks, and vibrations. The noise level is usually moderate but can be loud at times. Physical activities include talking, hearing, standing, walking, sitting, manipulating tools, reaching, climbing, and crouching.
  • Must have valid work authorization for employment in the United States.
