Job summary

Veit is seeking a Field Engineer to bridge field operations and project management for deep foundation and related geotechnical projects. The role involves coordinating execution, tracking production, managing documentation, and supporting cost control on projects across the United States.

You will travel 80-100% to job sites nationwide, work with Project Managers and Superintendents, and ensure safety and adherence to specifications while contributing to successful project delivery.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in construction management, engineering or related field or 4+ years of equivalent education and experience.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and effective communication with internal/external customers.
• Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and respond to shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage project management & coordination, track project costs and schedule.
• Prepare, review, and approve supplier purchase orders and change orders.
• Identify permits, safety observations and ensure site safety compliance.
• Maintain submittal/RFI logs and distribute drawings to staff and field personnel.
• Facilitate meetings with clients, owners, and project teams; maintain relationships with stakeholders.
• Assist in drafting subcontractor/P.O. agreements and coordinate engineering deliverables.

Job Description:POSITION SUMMARYJoin a team delivering complex deep foundation, shoring, and specialty geotechnical construction projects across the country. The Field Engineer serves as the link between field operations and project management, working alongside Project Managers and Superintendents to coordinate project execution, solve field challenges, track production, manage project documentation, support cost control efforts, and help ensure work is completed safely and according to project specifications. This highly visible, field-based role offers hands-on experience supporting complex foundation projects from the ground up while working alongside experienced project and field leaders on projects throughout the United States. Travel is required, with project assignments located throughout the United States.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Project Management & CoordinationManages PlanGrid and Heavy Job for project work accuracy, monitoring project costs to stay within budget.Proactively works with Project Management, Field Supervisory, and Client teams to identify and analyze potential risks and impacts to the project schedule.Tracks production to produce project activity profiles.Assists with job site duties to keep job site facilities functioning correctly.Contracts, Invoices & BudgetingPrepares, reviews, and approves supplier purchase orders.Understands owner contract and subcontract documents to determine inclusions/exclusions for invoice payment.Validates, reconciles, and maintains accurate quantities for billing purposes and communicates differences to project management.Prepares change orders, manages trucking logs, and approves invoices.Permits & Regulatory ComplianceIdentifies, completes, and applies for local permits.Performs on-site safety observations.Develops and oversees job site-specific requirements relating to safety, site cleanliness, and delivery schedules.Assists in producing and processing project deliverables such as Safety and QA/QC plans and test procedures.Submittals, RFIs & DocumentationProduces drafts, manages, and maintains project submittal/RFI logs for the lead project manager.Organizes and ensures proper documentation and drawing distribution to staff and field personnel.Meetings & CommunicationSchedules, facilitates, and manages Gopher 1 tickets.Schedules and leads private utility meetings and documents conversations to communicate with office personnel.Attends meetings as required with clients, owners, and project teams.Develops and maintains good working relationships with clients, subcontractors, vendors, landowners, and suppliers.Subcontractor & Supplier ManagementAssists in drafting subcontractor/P.O. agreements and ensures all subcontract agreements are finalized before work begins.Plans and coordinates engineering deliverables from various parties.Estimating & Business DevelopmentAssists with estimating duties, including but not limited to take-offs, solicitations to subcontractors/suppliers, bid and quote preparation, and bid running.Participates in business development events.General SupportAbility to independently perform tasks assigned with instructions as to the expected general results.Assist with other duties as assigned by management.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Associate degree or higher in construction management, engineering or related field with 0-2 years’ experience or 4+ years of equivalent education and experience.Ability to work with field concepts and work in the office.Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.Effective communication (oral, written, presentation, listening) with internal and external customersEffective motivational and supervisory skills.Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks.Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations, mean, median, and averages.Ability to maintain compliance with all Veit policies and procedures.Ability to respond to shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment with a can-do attitude.PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field; 1-3 years of experience in estimating and managing projects in a related scope of work, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Prior experience using construction software is a plus.Ability to read, analyze, and interpret project plans and specifications.OTHER:This is a Safety Sensitive Role.
