Qualifications

  • 6–15 years of experience in commercial marine or government shipbuilding.
  • Strong analytical abilities and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and high accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD; ability to learn department-specific software.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with design disciplines, clients, vendors, and production as needed.
  • Apply design principles to resolve production problems and stop-work issues.
  • Review and modify drawings with discipline supervisors as required.
  • Assist construction planning and provide actionable plans and deficiency reports.
  • Review documents, piping/HVAC diagrams, and mechanical systems and perform analyses.
  • Assist in integrating design with production and shipyard personnel.
  • Produce detailed action plans and ensure compliance with design safety factors, tolerances, and specifications.
  • Compile data, perform dimensional calculations, and implement required changes or revisions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Reporting Relationship * This position will report to Field Engineering SupervisorQualificationsEducation/Experience: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical or Marine Engineering Required Qualified candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience: * Should have 6-15 years of experience in either commercial marine or governments shipbuilding programs* Have good analytical skills.* Be capable of working with minimum supervision to accomplish assigned tasks with a high degree of accuracy.* Ability to interpret contract requirements and specifications.* Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and AutoCAD.* Capable of learning department-specific software programs to assist in various analyses.Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident Card required. Desired The following knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience are preferred but not required: * Experience with ABS rulesWorking Conditions The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This job is operated in an office environment.Also, co-located with production working together on daily technical and production issues on the ship. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, and smartphones. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
