The Weitz Company is seeking a Field Engineer to join our Industrial team. This role supports field supervision of work and coordination with subcontractors, with potential path toward becoming a Superintendent.

You’ll participate in planning, review equipment needs, and assist with pre-construction activities to ensure project success. Must be willing to travel as project needs dictate; initial assignment is in Council Hill, OK, with comprehensive benefits and strong opportunities for career

Qualifications

• 1-2 years of experience in a project engineer or related role.
• Industry-related degree or coursework is a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret construction documents.
• Knowledge of construction methods and materials.

Responsibilities

• Participate in development of the project plan and ensure proper execution.
• Recommend design changes to improve quality, reduce costs, or shorten schedule.
• Assist Superintendent with equipment review and planning.
• Assist with pre-construction meetings with subcontractors.
• Maintain and protect tools, equipment, and materials on site.
• Support site logistics and cleanup to present a professional image.
• Maintain cost reporting and respond to RFIs.
• Help develop and maintain the project schedule.
• Document delays and inform Superintendent.
• Monitor field performance including subs, employees, and costs.
• Maintain relations with owners/architects; escalate major issues.
• Set up, organize, read, and update project schedules.

Job Description:

We are currently accepting applications for a Field Engineer to join our Industrial team. (Must be willing to travel based on the needs of the project). Initial assignment is in Council Hill, OK. The Field Engineer will assist in the supervision of field work performed by Weitz and/or our subcontractors. This is a great opportunity for someone who is interested in becoming a Superintendent in the future.

What You’ll Do:

• Participate in the development of the project plan and ensure proper execution
• Make recommendations to the supervisor for design or other changes that will enhance the quality of the project, reduce operating and maintain costs, improve the scheduled completion, and/or decrease construction costs
• Assist Superintendent with equipment review and planning
• Assist Superintendent with pre-construction meetings with appropriate subcontractors prior to their start in the field
• Maintain and protect all tools, equipment, and materials on the jobsite
• Assist Superintendent with site logistics and cleanup to present a professional image to the public
• Maintain accurate cost reporting and respond to RFI’s
• Assist the Superintendent, as needed, in developing, updating, and maintaining the project schedule
• Document all delays and inform Superintendent
• Assist in monitoring the field performance for all aspects of the project including subcontractors, employees, consultants, schedules, quality, and costs
• Maintain routine relations with owners’ and architects’ representatives. Major disputes or problems encountered are discussed with appropriate Supervisor
• Set up, organize, read, communicate, and update project schedules

What We’re Looking For:

Experience:

• 1-2 years of experience as a Project Engineer, other construction-related role, or related internship experience
• Industry related degree or coursework is a plus

Skills:

• Ability to read and interpret construction documents
• Knowledge of construction methods and materials
• High level of initiative and problem-solving skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Detail-oriented and highly organized
• Flexibility to balance competing needs
• Ability to build positive relationships across the organization

Technology:

• Proficient in basic computer software including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
