Job summary

Kiewit is hiring Construction Field Engineers for a major Santa Clara County infrastructure project. You will support interpretation of drawings, perform quantity inspections, and assist in planning, surveying, and safety activities on-site.

The project is a $3B TBM/groundwork effort with multi-staged stations and complex ground stability work. The role requires 2+ years in heavy civil construction, an engineering degree, and willingness to travel to project sites.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of construction field experience, preferably in heavy civil projects.
  • Undergraduate degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field.
  • Ability to read and analyze engineering plans, specs, and contracts.
  • Willingness to travel/relocate as needed and work overtime when required.
  • Commitment to ethics, safety, and quality workmanship.

We are adding Construction Field Engineers to work on the largest single public infrastructure project ever constructed in Santa Clara County. It will consist of three new stations including two mid tunnel facilities and two portals for the Tunnel Boring Machine. This is a $3B job with an estimated completion date of 2/2029 and will be the 7th largest TBM in the world. Side by side and stacked configuration for the tunnel and stations. It will also include SOE and slurry walls to help with ground stability, adjacent structure support, and groundwater barrier.

Kiewit’s Northern California District is one of Kiewit’s leading infrastructure districts specializing in various types of work in the heavy civil, power, transportation, and water resource markets. Although most of our work is regionally based in Northern California, we also pursue various projects across the west coast. Location

Location: This role will be based on‑site at the project in Santa Clara, CA.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision
  • Perform quantity inspections by taking measurements and determining percentage of completed/installed materials and work
  • Assist in the preparation of work plans and work packages
  • Assist in field surveying and work layout support including elevation, control points, and compilation of as‑built data
  • Assist in compiling, processing, and confirming daily labor timesheets
  • Assist in the preparation of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s)
  • Participate in jobsite safety reviews, toolbox meetings, mass safety meetings, and safety training
  • Order and schedule material deliveries
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate work groups on the jobsite
  • Supervise field operations

Qualifications
  • 2+ years' construction field experience, preferably in Heavy Civil construction (roadway, concrete, asphalt, earthworks, Bridge, Rail, Water or Wastewater)
  • Work experience in engineering and leading engineers
  • Undergraduate degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related
  • Ability to read, analyze and identify discrepancies on engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents
  • Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide‑ranging climates and environment
  • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative
  • Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity
  • Passion for safety, with the ability to help us ensure that nobody gets hurt
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel and relocate as needed
  • Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail

Base Compensation: $85,000 - $110,000 ** This position may qualify for a cost‑of‑living adjustment added to base salary for employees based in select Northern California locations.**

(Actual compensation is subject to variation due such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
