Calance is seeking a hands-on Field Engineer for a 6–12 month contract in Minneapolis, MN. The role focuses on cabling, network deployment, and onsite leadership at construction and data center sites.

  • Test meeting room functionality for end users.
  • Serve as onsite technical resource and lead deployments.
  • Communicate with stakeholders and coordinate contractors.
  • Provide onsite direction and resolve deployment issues.

We have a contract opportunity with one of our major clients. They are looking for a Field Engineer- Cabling and Network - 100% onsite with travel for an important project.

Position: Field Engineer- Cabling and Network - 100% onsite with travel

Location: Minneapolis , MN, 55415

Duration: Contract : 6 - 12 Months

Minneapolis, MN – They would like resource onsite at headquarters when not working on locations below.

TRAVEL:

Travel is expected approximately twice per month, depending on project needs. Potential Ryan Companies data center construction sites may include:

Mesa, AZ – Phoenix area

Covington, GA – Atlanta area

Wheatfield, IN – South Bend region

Abernathy, TX – Lubbock area

Additional U.S. project sites as needed

Job Description:

Required Skills:

Hands-on Network & Field Infrastructure Deployment — Experience installing/configuring switches, firewalls, wireless access points, network racks, and basic jobsite networks. They need someone who can arrive onsite and execute without significant technical oversight.

Low-Voltage Cabling & Physical Technology Installation — Strong understanding of structured/LV cabling, rack builds, cable troubleshooting, TV/display mounting, and coordinating the physical installation components. They don’t necessarily need to personally perform every cable run, but they need to understand the work well enough to oversee subcontractors.

Independent Field Leadership &

Customer/Contractor Coordination — Ability to act as the onsite technical lead, communicate directly with Companies, coordinate subcontractors, troubleshoot issues in real time, and keep deployments moving. For this role, I’d consider this just as important as the technical skills.

Top Three Skills
  • Hands-on network deployment: Switches, firewalls, wireless access points, racks, connectivity troubleshooting, and basic network setup.
  • Independent field leadership: Must be comfortable owning the onsite deployment, communicating with the customer, coordinating contractors, and solving problems without significant supervision.
  • Low-voltage/physical infrastructure: Structured cabling, LVC, rack builds, mounting, and enough physical infrastructure knowledge to oversee subcontractors.
NICE TO HAVE:

Logitech/OWL conferencing equipment, Microsoft Teams Rooms, and broader AV experience.

Description:

Company is seeking a hands-on Field Engineer for an anticipated six-month engagement supporting technology deployments at construction and data center project sites.

This individual will be responsible for setting up network and technology infrastructure within temporary jobsite offices and trailers, supporting collaboration and AV technology, and coordinating with subcontractors and onsite teams.

The ideal candidate can operate independently, work directly with customer stakeholders, troubleshoot issues in the field, and take ownership of onsite deployments. A more senior candidate who can serve as a strong onsite technical leader would be highly valued.

Key Responsibilities
Network & Infrastructure
  • Install and configure basic network environments within portable jobsite trailers and temporary offices.
  • Deploy and configure network switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
  • Build and organize network racks.
  • Support structured and low-voltage cabling installations.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity and infrastructure issues.
  • Test and validate equipment and connectivity to ensure the environment is operational.
  • Set up and configure meeting room technologies, including Logitech conference room solutions and OWL conferencing devices.
  • Install, mount, and configure TVs, displays, mounting brackets, and related equipment.
  • Support Microsoft Teams Rooms and similar collaboration technology.
  • Test meeting room functionality and ensure environments are ready for end users.
Field Coordination & Leadership
  • Serve as the onsite technical resource for deployments.
  • Work independently with limited supervision.
  • Communicate directly with stakeholders and onsite teams.
  • Coordinate third-party contractors performing cabling, mounting, and other installation activities.
  • Provide onsite technical direction and help resolve issues impacting the deployment.
  • Ensure work is completed according to customer requirements and project timelines.
  • Communicate project status, issues, and dependencies to the appropriate teams.
Required Qualifications
  • Hands-on field deployment experience.
  • Experience installing and configuring network switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and network racks.
  • Familiarity with structured cabling and low-voltage installations.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across network and physical infrastructure.
  • Ability to independently manage onsite technical work.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with subcontractors and onsite teams.
  • Comfortable working within active construction/project environments.
  • Ability and willingness to travel nationally approximately twice per month.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to work onsite at customer locations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting construction sites, data center projects, temporary offices, or jobsite trailers.
  • Experience leading onsite technology deployments.
  • Experience coordinating low-voltage or structured cabling contractors.
  • Experience with Logitech, OWL, Microsoft Teams Rooms, or similar collaboration technologies.
  • Experience with new-site or greenfield technology deployments.
