Job summary

Blach Construction in San Jose, CA seeks an entry-level Field Engineer. The successful candidate will join as an apprentice in the field, building carpentry skills during a 4-year program and supporting the Superintendent and project team in planning, scheduling, safety and quality control, and documentation.

You will learn plan reading, collaborate with foremen and superintendents, and develop expertise across trades.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.

Responsibilities

• Complete 4-year carpenter's union apprentice program.

• Learn plan reading and navigate construction phases.
• Build relationships with coworkers and teams.
• Learn RFIs, submittal processing, and scope statements with PM/PE.
• Shadow Foreman, Asst. Superintendent, and Superintendent.

Entry‑Level Position Available

Title: Field Engineer

Reports to: Superintendent

Summary of Position: Blach offers a unique approach to the Field Engineer role. The successful candidate will be primarily working as an entry‑level apprentice in the field, building their craft skills as a carpenter during their 4 years of apprenticeship school. There will be opportunities to provide support and assistance to the Superintendent and project team in all aspects of job planning, scheduling safety and quality control, project documentation, developing and maintaining excellent relationships, budgeting, and cost control.

Typical Duties

• Complete 4-year carpenters union apprentice program
• Work with carpenters, foremen, and superintendents
• Attend and complete all required apprenticeship classes and required field hours
• Work on developing carpentry skills on the job and learn basic knowledge of all other trades
• Maintain a safe work environment
• Build relationships and respect from coworkers/peers
• Work with PE/PM to learn operations (RFIs/Submittal processing, scope statements, etc.).
• Shadow Foreman/Asst. Supt./Supt
• Learn each phase of a construction project
• Learn how to navigate through and have a general knowledge of plan reading

Skills/Qualifications

Location: Northern California (Bay Area)

Position Status: Full-time, regular business hours, non-exempt
